My first catch

...was a catfish!

Went on a fishing trip to Hesargatta lake with two friends from college .Used earthworm for bait.Tried using chicken liver and ragi but didn't stick well to the hook.

Sanjay,
The lake's all dried up this summer. But the small water hole that remains is loaded with cat fish.

Didn't have a camera when I caught the fish but took these pics when I came back home/I'd wrapped the bug*3r in a newspaper and took him out like 4 hours later and guess what...he was still alive!

A word of caution for those who plan to fish here- the lake's under contract and the local fishermen don't like anyone fishing here.In short, i don't plan to go back there.

..and thanks Mack The Knife for the casting lessons and making the trip happen sooner than expected

It's been an annoying day but this news brought out a big grin.

Well done, Pran! You are now on your way to utter ruin - first shooting and now fishing.

Here's to many more and we will make a trip to the WASI waters during the summer hols.

hey Cowboy, waay to go-cat fish, or whatever-you are hooked for life, in politically incorrect pursuits! ;) : evil:
Enjoy and keep on doin it!
What rod reel/line?
You have to boil ragi, like making mudde, (drakshi allowed in these mudde's :);) ) then it'll stick to the hook.less water, let em be hard.

Pran,

Congratulations on your first catch. Mine has eluded me for well over 30 years since I first tried my hand at fishing. Hope you have many, many more in the future.

Very best wishes and congratulations again. The first catch is always the greatest!

Thanks guys.

Asif,
The rod's a 7.5 ft fibreglass(you've seen this :) ),the reel's a shakespeare pro-touch with a 12 pound line.

Thanks for the bait recipe.Used ragi mudde mixed chicken liver for sometime but didn't have any bites. What do you generally use for catfish?

Congrats on the first one, this is just the begining.
Pity the lake is dried up do have some fond memories of that place, perhaps you can try the Varthur lake towards Whitefield, that had plenty of of water till a couple of months ago. There should be plenty of Catfish there.

Pran,

To avoid the spines, bring your hand along the front of the fish going towards the tail and flatten the spines as you slide down and then hold. Otherwise just give it a good wack on the head with a priest (if you aren't going to release it back into the water) and remove your hook.

Remember that tilapia can hurt you in the same manner.

I have only ever used earthworm for catfish. Earthworm will also get you tilapia, eel, chuplimeen and murral, to name a few that I know off.

Mack The Knife, now Praveen will cart a honest to goodness priest with him on his fishing soirees!!

A cudgel of sorts is what a 'priest' is Praveen.
Yup, chicken skin, guts and earthworm should do fine with these non finicky types. They're non veg(love their food inclinations)
Ciao and keep on doin it!

Will do that till I can locate the spines well.

Will carry one on my next trip.

Guess I'll spend time on taking the right bait next time.

Do you guys use a ground bait?

Thanks Pran
