think it is not illegal to kill rodents

I'm sure Menaka can use this as the proof as long as she is willing to financially reimburse the damage the rodents have done to my home. They blocked my kitchen outlet and destroyed the sewage.. i had to incur cost that was more than the price of the air gun i used to kill them!

well, if they take away my airgun i will still use a rat trap, poison...bla bla... so what all will they ban???

by the way i read somewhere that 30% of the crop is destroyed by rodents? hope we get some support from food supplies ministry

Yea rats and crows come under vermin. Rats spread plague and other friendly disease, so I'm all for elimination with extreme prejudice. Don't care what the people for animals say...sure they would be singing a different tune when rats damage their property.

Can they stop the selling of Mortein rat kill? I think at times we self police ourselves out of a need for self flagellation.

Rats in India cause incredible damage to stored foodcrops, they spread disease, etc. and are classified as vermin. Eliminating vermin is a public service.

When I was a youngster and my dad was posted to Mumbai, we lived in Colaba. My friends and I would get together and go out at night near the garbage chutes of the skyscrapers. We would take our airguns and flashlights with us. We eliminated a lot of rats.

There are a lot of things that you will do in life that will annoy someone or the other. If you are constantly worried about what someone else will think, you will never do anything worthwhile.

Dear THX 1138

Congratulations for dispatching troubling rodents.
You have not won the Battle completely as there are billions more waiting for a chance to sneak in to you property ....

I am also facing much more trouble and losses than yours....

Since 1999 I have been working hard to develop plantation of diff. fruit corps and engaged in routine agriculture activities on totaling 135 Acres of a land.
During recent years my farm/orchard had become favorite feasting ground for Blu-bulls and Hogs .
Before the used to be seen very rarely in few numbers even during dark hours, nowadays they are feasting and damaging fruits plants/destroying crops daringly during daylights also in never before numbers.

This year my long time working partners ( labor gang ) has refused to work with me anymore as their share in profit been drastically reduced.

Profiting farm has become NPA. My elders are seriously thinking to sell off the property.

Years back I had dropped down couple of hogs with my 12 gauge shotgun. As usual, authority ppl ( forest officers and local police ) appeared and whole case was solved with great difficulty

Recently, I ( with other problem facing farmers ) had approached to the local forest office, Instead of giving solution, Serious Threats and Warnings were given to us.

As on today I can't do the same, fearing great conciquancies,

Menka Gandhi's brigade or Govt. sure will not reimburse our financial losses also they will not consider our pain.

Official authorities are waiting for their chance to rip off

Personally I am not against killing trouble making pests and animals.

Please remember, This Forum is a place to share knowledge and experience, technical discussions, sporting activities and RKBA

I advise you, Please refrain off from posting pictures of killed rodents,( specially killed in INDIA) as Law and definitions are not cleared in conman men's terms.

Right of Legal gun ownership is facing great difficulties nowadays, our opponents can use such posts to their aid.

Why don't you participate in discussions and learn from others experience, I think you will enjoy much more here

Dear Pritam and Ag lover,

Long as people behave as sheep, you will be treated as sheep. No one has taken our airguns away and neither will we let them as there is a rule of law in the country. We just have to have the guts to do the right thing.
The Maneka case isn't a curtain downer on us. Let them try to implement the licensing of airguns...believe me the officers concerned will be shedding more tears than us. Secondly, one can get licenses for firearms and so why should we be scared to get them for airguns if need be.
Thirdly, do you think turning the other cheek will work? If you do then please go ahead but don't preach to me about what I should like and not like.

Dear Dev,

I am not behaving sheep,

Days have become difficult for ppl like me, I don't want to satisfy each and every official summonsing to me.

I knew I was very well within the law when I dispatched those Hogs. but Police and Forest ppl literary made my life miserable , I had lost much more time other than monies I spent to resolve that case.

People in Khakis are not aware of the law, but they sure knows how to rip you off by troubling you

In this fast life I would avoid spending my time to justify authorities other than enjoying making money and have fun with my kids

Regards

Pritam,

Totally empathize with you on all the troubles you have faced with our khaki brigade, and very well know that your advise is out of good/noble intentions of not seeing another man go through the pain of running into the authorities - so appreciate it. Having said that, lets not run away from from taking the bull by its horn; if a lady dedicated to animal welfare is single handedly out to do what she thinks is "right" (i respect her for that!), why not people like us who are so passionate about guns do the same for promoting ownership and use? know that were are already doing this with the RKBA initiative - the thing is, it should show in spirit & action. lets not run half way to meet failure, if someone had their way in banning open sale of airguns, so be it. we can always have it reversed, at least fight for it.

By the way i came across this forum when i was looking for ways to control pests!! i'm very happy with what i found here.

If the system is playing games with you, you may also have to device your own ways to beat the system. In other words you may have to build evidence in your support. You may try the following:

1) Join hands with other farmers, local village panchayat, M.L.A., M.P. etc. and discuss the problem.

2) Lodge a general diary at Police Station to take necessary steps to ensure crop protection for standing crops. Also write the same to your local Chief Wildlife Warden or the authorized officer, along with copy of general diary given to police, seeking to take steps to ensure crop protection for standing crops and for permission under Section 11(b) of The Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972(can be read at http://envfor.nic.in/legis/wildlife/wildlife1.html) to shoot the wild animals for crop protection.

3) If neither steps are taken to stop this loss to standing crops or permission to shoot, approach High Court for writ. If you do not want to take help of lawyer, you can always approach court as "party in person".

Really guys?

Where do you get off telling another member what he can and cannot post, especially if he has not broken any board rules? It's one thing for a mod to tell him that. If it offends you, do not look at it, don't use some misguided, addle-headed woman as an excuse to chastise your fellow board members.

As Dev says... sheep get treated like sheep. How do you guys ever get anything done, if you are afraid of your own shadows? This is the reason that anti-gun forces in India are so successful. They know no one will openly oppose them, they know that people will curb their own activities with the fear that they will provoke more regulations.

This mindset has got to be changed. Rather than trying to placate anti's, you should be on the phone to as many politicians as you can. You should bombard them with email and letters, yelling about this. Get all your friends and their friends to do the same thing. Make the politicians life a misery till they do something about your issues. That is what they are there for. If they don't listen, tell them that you will actively campaign against them at election time. Don't get me wrong, that is work.

Or, is it just easier to bow down to the anti's so they don't get upset? Then one doesn't have to get their butt off the chair and actually do something.
