abhijeet, and what about the cross bow, here in my area many use custom made cross bows on snake heads (murrels). its damn powerful & accurate.l. i also own one, which is unused for many years.is this illegal?

Scenario: 30-06 on murrel, Instant fish paste  . Poor visibility in water + refraction adds up to one helluva shooter, would like to be under his tutelage. Who's the man ?

That said, give me a line or a net any day.

It's true mate, old muzzle loaders still work on big murrels, pellets must be in limited numbers otherwise PASTE" as quoted by OUP.

OUP, time to take shot is the split of a second when the fish come to the surface for air gulping, so no refractive error.

The only negative about this forum is that a lot of guys , lots of times , just talk through their hats not really knowing jack shit.

Bows & crossbows require no license.

OUP even a powerful calibre (like the 30-06) will loose most of its energy on hitting water. I don't recall the exact distances but I think they completely loose their effectiveness within as little as 4-5 feet or so... will try and see if I can dig out details on real life studies conducted...

Have never tried it, but heard quite a few stories from people who have used the .315 for "fishing"...

Cheers!

OK, not really an authoritative study but got an experiment conducted by the Mythbusters team. http://kwc.org/mythbusters/2005/07/myth ... water.html
The next gun up was the M1, which shoots at 2800 ft/s. In their Bulletproof Glass mythbusting, the M1 was capable of penetrating 2.5" of bulletproof glass.

* M1@ 10 ft: tiny bullet fragments once again
* M1@ 2 ft: the bullet only pierced the gel 4", which would be enough to just pierce the skin.

They finally broke out the big gun, the .50 cal with armor-piercing rounds, which are shot at 3000 ft/s.

Adam: "Hopefully we'll be gone before the pool fully drains"

* .50 cal @ 10 ft: even though the water exploded, the ballistics gel was intact. Water made it all the way up to the ceiling. As it was with the previous guns, the bullet round came apart on impact. It lost all of it's energy within the first 3 ft. You would be safe 14" underwater at a 23 angle from a .50 cal.

confirmed: you can protect yourself from a bullet by diving underwater. If the shooter were directly overhead, you would probably be safe from most guns at 8 ft. At a 30 degree angle, you would only have to be 3 ft underwater to be safe.

Shooting at water with a firearm is a really dangerous practice. Hit the right angle and the slug will skip off the water like a stone and will be lethal for many hundred yards.
