Hello there is this fish that is supposed to be tastiest in Mizoram.. just wanted to know its scientific name. Could this be the Mahseer?? it is supposedly able to get to 100 kg's down southern Mizoram. Funnily this fish is only found in the rivers flowing southwards into the Bay of Bengal

I called up an old lady who is known to have information about fish. She Identified it as "Kaliajara" (Not sure if it's written as "Kalia jara") in our local language Assamese. Tomorrow morning I'll call up my sister who is in university studying biology to help us identify it. I think other IFG member who's informed about fishes more than me can help. BTW it doesn't look like Mahseer to me.

AFAIK Bighead Carp has smaller and smoother scale than the fish pictured above.
BTW Calta is called Indian Carp I guess.

The fish pictured in the first post seem to be from the Carp family.

Definitely not Mahseer. Mahseer has a longer Pike like body.

Catla is not the same as bighead carp.
And catla is just one of the Indian carps, other common ones seen in the market being rohu, mrigal, calabose etc.

Definitely not mrigal or calabose.Small catlas will have mouths and heads in proportion wont they?
The OP also mentioned the fish is known to grow to huge sizes almost upto 100 kg , neither mrigal and calabose even approach that, whereas Catla is known to grown to huge sizes. The mouth does appear a bit small in the pic.Maybe they are hybrids with rohu?

Guys, I surrender. My sister couldn't identify it. We'll try to identify it again when she comes back home in Durga Puja holiday.
