Another Leopard Dies-Another Botch-up?Pics.

Post by Vikram » Thu Jul 21, 2011 4:28 pm

Dalily Mail published this news with these extraordinarily detailed pictures of a leopard rampage. I do not want to be unjust to the personnel involved as many of them put their lives at stake to protect the villagers watching the spectacle. But,the way they went about it while dealing with it leaves a few doubts about their training. I will let the pictures and the article tell you the story. There are a lot more pictures on the link.

One can understand the confusion and the melee the fast moving leopard must have created. These two guys almost shot each other.

One of the comments on the article:
Some of those tranquiliser guns sure look a lot like double barrel shot guns!!!

I dont have anything further to add to this.

If this is the state of conservation, where the lives of the conservers and the conserved are treated with such disregard, dont know where the future leads. I feel sorry; for the cat for having met an untimely death, for the forest guards who were under-equipped to say the least and came within an inch of meeting the maker, and for the people 'smiling' and 'enjoying' the show from their rooftops.

Pseudo's for Animals:But whats one leopard eh' !? There have been so many incidents like this in Rurual India. Lets get on with banning airguns, from within the confines of our airconditioned offices in the Urbanscape. Lets make hunting illegal, oh heck its already banned.....

THE INCIDENT OCCERED NEAR MY
UNCLE'S HOUSE.
The lepord injoured 6 person...

There are several problem's in
this reserve forest ( MAHANANDA
RESERVED FOREST)
1. This forest is so close of
SILIGURI city. Only 1 km. And the
locality of siliguri increses day by
day.
2. SILIGURI - ALIPURDUAR Jn
broad guage railway line of NFR
& NH 31A goes into the forest &
they divide the forest into 2
pices.
Many elephants dead in the
forest due to train accident every
year.
3. River mahananda flowes the
most of the part of the forest in
monsoon...
4. Due to sortage of foods , the
wild animals comes into village
everyyear.
5. Siliguri is very sensetive area .
4 countries border situated near
siliguri. NEPAL , BHUTAN ,
BENGLADESH & CHINA.
So the gov. can't do anything for
the wildanimals.

The elephant died a few weaks ago due to train accident in MAHANANDA RESERVE FOREST , SILIGURI..

What a beautiful leopard. Sad that it died and could not be captured alive.
I went through the article yesterday.
Isn't the first snap just amazing. Check out those claws and the anger on the leopard's face as he pounces on the forest guard.
Thanks for the snap, Raju. I have always wondered why our development projects (during the planning stage) do not take into account the impact they will have on the environment.

I was reading this in the news and wanted to post it ; vikram beat me to it.

I am still wondering about the wound on its left front paw.

That first picture is especially incredible! It gives me a chill just to see it. A shame, indeed.

A few more pics, courtesy Yahoo News.

Have a close look at the hands of the forest ranger, the moment before he was attacked. Do they look like rocks/stones in his hand or maybe I need to get my eyes checked ?

MuzzleBlast.jpg
And are these muzzle blasts from a "dart gun"?.

Not one to criticise the Rangers who were doing their duty with their lives at stake.
But this shows the 'shove under the carpet' attitude of the Babus and the powers that be.

The forest deperment sent some untrained temporary staff to handle the leopard. But they can't do it for their ignorance....

Their wrong decision & attack of the crowd killed the leopard.... :deadhorse:
