Hi Guy's
Good friend of mine send me these some bear picture, his brother went for Elk hunting and that found this monster, i like to share with you guy's hope you guy's like it, so here is the story and picture

Big Bear shot Saddle Hills Alberta , Oct. 20/2010

Bear weighed in just under 1300 pounds and would have stood 12 ¾
feet tall on its hind legs…..

How would you like to have this beauty stand up from a berry patch
right in front of you... These two gents were calling elk in the
Saddle Hills south of woking when this big guy slipped in on the
caller the Shooter spotted the bear 8 yards from the caller and
dropped him with 5 shots out of his 338 Rem Mag.. Farmers in the area
new about the Bear but weren’t able to track after it had killed 3
horses, 5 cows, 13 sheep and a pen full of chickens on several
different homesteads in the area.
Fish and wildlife had bear traps set up in the area but notice on
surveillance video that when ever a he would enter his hump would hit
the top of the culvert trap slowing him enough that the trap door
would wack him on the head before he was all the way in check out the
scar tissue on his face…..

Those paws and claws are unreal!!

Thanks for sharing. What a magnificent beast - awesome claws! I surely would have had a heart stopping moment if he had come upon me - rearing up from a berry patch, unexpectedly! Phew!

Can you save just one claw for me?

Truly the "father of all bears". That must have been a heart-stopping moment. "Buck fever" would have been fatal.

That's one monster,and I thought the biggest bear I had seen was the one my granddad shot in the 60s...this one is huge

Thats a mighty bear - bordering grizzly and now I understand why bear are dangerous after checking the paw/claws size

My God. That's a monster indeed. Never seen anything like this before.
Even in India the Himalayan Black Bear is known for it's short temper and unprovoked, unpredictable behaviour.
In the state I live in. Uttarakahand. The largest number of attacks on humans have been from Black Bears.

Here are the figures from 2001 to 2011
.
Himalayan Black Bear 378 attacks on humans
Leopards 374 attacks
Elephants 63 attacks
and
Tigers 22attacks.

There is another interesting change in Bear behaviour that has been noticed in the state lately.
These bears used to hibernate for two to three months during the harsh winters.
Now they don't.
Loss of habitat and less availabilty of food has forced the bears down hill and made them more irritable. Resulting in man-animal conflict.

This bear was probably shot just before the winter. His voracious appetite of all those animals he killed was to prepair him for his winter hibernation.

That is huge. your friend is lucky that he did not freeze when this appeared out of nowhere.

Prashant, interesting observation. But, I do not know if bears are more prone to attack. There must be more to it than its predisposition.Anyone who knows more about them? Prashant,TwoRivers? Thanks.

Man I would have peed in my pants . I have had the privilage of seeing a bear when I was in a tea estate in the nilgiris I was alone and it was 11:30pm was scared and exited at the same time. The bear just looked at me and ran into the jungle(I think I might have forgotten to shave and shower). I have always thought that bears don't attack unless provoked. When my dad was in the government service he used to come across a lot of bear attacks, mostly tea estate labourers who were going about their business plucking tea leaves and the bear had taken refuge in the tea bushes. The other group of casualities were bear catchers who sold cubs to the circus and zoos, mama bear did not take very kindly towards this kind.

Hi Prashant,man - animal conflict is gonna rise,i am no soothsayer but can assure you that if you check out the figures which will be there from 2011-2021,the conflict would have risen atleast 10 fold,these guys are running out of SPACE,where are they gonna go,as far as the Bear goes,had a close call last weekend,it had snowed all over my place (ya we did have a cpl of incidents with the Himalayan Black Bears),thought the Blackies would be sleeping it off in the dead of winters,but no, the guy was 30 meters from us and the best i could make out it wasnt in a pleasent mood,so we took a hike,latter that night beary broke my friend's cars rear window and took a cpl of bags of Chips and broke our Vodka Bottle ,guess with them not sleeping anymore,they are gonna be more irritable,and gonna break more windows and steal more vodka

So do you keep a handy big caliber rifle or a shotgun when you are up in the hills Amit ?

Hi Rajesh, 150 grainers on the .270,along with rifle slug for the shotgun,owe Beary one for the Vodka,nah ,let him have it,we people have done enough damage to these poor guys,wont mind dishing out a cpl of cases,if they want it.

5 times 338 is less for this monster!

Amit 357 , 270 is a good gun, you can shoot the bear with that no problum , shoot him in the head, if i am in your place, sure i well shoot him

Had a chat with Baljit. The last shot that brought this bear finally down , was through the head , at almost point blank range.
