Something special about this Rigby other than the fact that it was owned by Corbett.Perhaps the butt has a secret compartment in which is hidden the map to King Solomons Mines,or maybe Cpt. Kidds treasure or......A picture sure won't help.

if u guys are intrested in reading his biography, check out carpet sahib, its the best biography about him, very neutral also showing some other aspects of his personality.

Jim Corbett had two .275 rifles. One was by Westley Richards and the other by John Rigby. He had also used a Jeffery DBBL 450 / 400 on certain ocassions, but the long marches on foot that were his trademark approach, led to the preferenc on the .275 which was a lighter rifle to carry.

There are also records of him in the family Dairies. Mokamah Ghat where Jim Corbett lived for over 20 years is just 17 Miles from my village.

During those days he came down to visit our family often on a railway inspection trolley pushed down the tracks with labourers. This the the Delhi to Howrah track and Mokahmah is an intermediate station.

Corbetts job was to supervise the gangs who offload goods from Broad Gauge goods train to the steamer and from the steamer to the metre gauge train across the ganges and vice versa.

At the turn of the century, when Corbett joined the railways, on both banks of the ganges were dense sal forests.

The British mowed down this timber to burn as fuel in the locomotives ( coal as locomotive fuel came later )

The stint at Mokamah was also to bring timber from Nepal – Bihar Terai forests for railway sleepers and timber trade.

He used to travel down to Calcutta to purchase rifles, guns, and ammo from Manton & Company.

There are records of him using 12 Bore and 28 Bore shotguns ( for winged game ) as well besides the .275 and 450 / 400.
