Glad you guys liked the photos.

@skeetshot, my guess too is that is was a babbler or bushchat of some kind.

@Brihaji, shooting while looking through a lens comes a close second to shooting while looking through the scope. Few are lucky to have been able to do both. I have not been that fortunate. Still i believe a clean photo is as important as a clean kill, else there is no point in taking either ;)

Hello dr.jayakumar,
Glad you liked the shots. More coming soon.
All of these were taken hand held. Do not own or use a tripod since i feel it only comes in the way and hinders easy of movement while shooting wild life. Found it most difficult to get close to birds without being noticed. Even then got very little time before they figured i was there and took off. Hence hand held shots works best for me.

While I agree with your point of view - there are moments that stay only for a 'fleeting moment' & chance are that you'll never get it again....It's moments such as these are to be captured for posterity....

There is a very memorable picture taken by the internationally acclaimed photographer "Eric Meola" of the final moments of a Bull in a Bull Fight - Mr. Meola mentioned that he deliberately jiggled his camera to express the "Shiver" experienced by the bull as it finally succumbed to the matador's final thrust of his sword on its neck...
To many it may seem a picture that's "out of focus" but to those who know what's happening at that moment - its an image beyond description....
I could not get the above picture - But here's another of Eric Meola's masterpiece of a "Horseman" in full gallop taking a sharp turn....
Image
See the dynamism in the rider & horse's movement - Its virtual poetry in motion.....
See what I mean....good sharp focused pictures are fine - but to capture such moments to convey the excitement of a precious moment requires spontaneity, a quick reflex & anticipation......

@Brihaji,
I agree on the fantastic effects that creative use of blur can achieve. However i prefer my wild life shots to be sharp. There is a certain amount of effort that goes into taking sharp pictures of animals/bird with a non IS telephoto lens while hand holding it. It is almost like sniping :P , where concentration and breathing control is of utmost importance. I have more than once found myself having the subject in focus yet clicking the shutter only once i have steadied my breathing right down, controlled the excitement and clicking right after exhaling a breath. It is as close as we mortals can ever get to hunting i guess :P

Our last spotting on the last outing of our trip. We waited for over two hours under a tree. All we could see for these two hours was a small tip of the tail protruding from one of the branches. After that when the cat finally decided to reveal itself, it was well worth the wait. The Leopard leapt from the branch that was almost 18 feet high to land perfectly on its feet!

Hi Kshitij,
> Excellent composition & capture with right exposure :D
> It was a pleasure viewing them....
> I appreciate your point of view in taking photographs....To me it is not about taking a good photograph - But Creating a Memorable Image....
> I can understand the problems with having a steady hold & releasing the shutter without any shake.... Consider using a Mono Pod & a Cable Release...works wonders....
> Well done - Keep Shooting (Camera) :D
