Thanks Yaj,
She looks cracking. Why her eyes are so red?
Thanks Nitro,
I think it was Ostocalcium only, been giving to all my dogs. Never realized can be so big problem. Will take my building pup to vet this weekend for vacination, just to be safe. We have many kids in building.
Thanks guys.

Here's the Grand Old Man, at 12 years, 10 years of which, he has protected my family, been a constant companion to my mother. He has been and still is an excellent gun dog, very caring towards the family cat, heck the list can go on and on, if I were to look back and choose which dog has been the best , then 'Patchy' wins hands down. Now in his twilight years, we all take care of each and every need of hisYou do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

hvj1,
I have been thinking of Rhodesian Ridgeback for a year now. Unfortunately, I have not seen any nor know anyone here in Gujarat who has these dogs. All through my life, we've always had GSDs but looking at security from a farmer's point of view I would like to keep one. Should you have information on this breed with people with sizeable land, I would appreciate you letting me know.
Good luck with your pets and hope you have a wonderful relationship with them.

Justice alone is the mainstay of government and the source of prosperity to the governed, injustice is the most pernicious of things; it saps the foundations of the government and brings ruin upon the realm - Sher Shah Sur, Sultan-ul-Adil.

Navi 22jee,
Astra is an IM, Indian Mastiff or Bulli (Bohli) kutta as called in border areas of Punjab. I picked up a mixed breed pup (Desi ) to keep in our apartment building. Will post pics.

I have had experience with GSDs, I love their intelligence and noble appearance, but not in favour of them anymore due to different set of requirements. I wanted a dog for my farm, formidable looking, specifically good with kids and very sturdy. The Boerboel fits, lets see what my experience is like in the near future. Please check out the internet, the closest ridgebacks are in Mumbai and for sale. Request you to read about it on wiki, that is if you havent done so already and draw your own conclusions. On this breed I would like to reserve my opinion,

Thanks Inder. Actually her eyes arent red, the loose skin on the face of the the mastiffs sometimes causes the eyelids to sag resulting in the red tinged inner part of the eyelid being seen.kanwar76 wrote:Thanks Yaj,

@ ngrewal
As Inder has mentioned she is an Indian Mastiff.
@ hvj1
I received Astra as a pup with her ears already cropped.Pups of this breed are traditionally cropped at a young age.
Your Grand old man is exactly that! He looks so dignified. Actually the pariah is an excellent multipurpose breed/landrace which is put to use in rural India for various tasks and performs its heart out but yet is accorded a low status by most of us.I have a pariah b**ch and she is my favourite!
And here is my male Caravan hound

Re: My search for ultimate dog breed ends!
Love the Caravan hound. My last dog which passed away last feb was a Himalyan/Tibettan Mastiff. I absolutely love this robust hardy breed and love the deep heavy bark and the active guard dog qualities which are shown best by this breed ..come nightfall . Some experts have told me that there is a slight difference between the muzzle of a himalyan and tibettan mastiff. would love to know the difference if anyone of u could educate me on it.
