Mack The Knife, I can tell you guys had a lot of fun. I'm really happy to see these large water bodies in India. BTW, what is that small rectangular building with the tree/vine wrapped around it. Its amazing what we have tucked around, eh ?

Nice write up, Rusty. I'm surprised to see that the water at Shiva is clear and very fishable. Things aren't so good above the KRS, will have to wait till mid november to fish the upper stretches.

How did the braid with mono leader work out?

Sharief, I am not sure what that building was but it has always intrigued me. One guess is that it could have been a keeper's room in the old days.

Until the rains truly stop, fishing in ideal conditions is going to be a lottery. I have seen clearer water on this stretch but yes, it wasn't as muddy compared to a couple of recent trips - barring the one made in mid-October with the family.

Pran was using the reel loaded with braid but the few times I cast out, it was just fine. Did not get the opportunity to set the hook, so cannot really comment about it yet.

Thanks, Vikram.

I missed out on a good pic of a croc who surfaced less than 10 metres behind me whilst I was spinning. He was gone before I could get the camera out. It would have made a good pic as quite a bit of his head and snout were above water.

A couple of things I forgot to mention...

1) There was a simultaneous poaching raid on the cottage lake and Forbes Sagar on the night of 20th October. From what I could understand (Pran correct me if I got this wrong), the poachers were not successful at the cottage lake but at Forbes they were only caught after they had taken the fish out. 75% of the fish were said to have been revived and released by the guards.

2) When wearing a life vest / PFD, make sure you keep drinking water. The sun was not very strong but my shirt was still soaked through with sweat. Since I suffer from excruciating cramps when I am dehydrated, it has become an automatic habit to keep drinking water. I only realised my lapse in advsing Pran about this when he complained of dehydration but by then we were already on our way home.

Yup.That's right. I did get a hint of some insiders being involved. I could be wrong though.

>what is that small rectangular building with the tree/vine wrapped around it.

Sharief the building caught my attention too, but before I could ask what it was the croc that was 10-15 yards from the coracle caught my attention..I've never been that close to a croc.

Great outing.... and good catching...Mack The Knife.
Lucky that u didn't hook up the croc.... maybe he was there to warn u about stealing his fish !!

Wonder how many more years it will take me to get some fish stuck to my bait ...haven't caught even one till date... :(

Maybe impatience has something to do with it...and ofcourse u need to take back your curse... :x

May go on 10th morning and return at night or on 11th morning/afternoon.

Let me know if you are interested.

You will have to slum it in the back of the Gypsy because the cottage is booked. Alternatively, you could go practice at the range and then hope to add another boring old medal to your collection. Your choice. ;)

Well, Guess I'm doing neither.
I wanted to make the most of the 4 day leave (8th to 11th).. so maybe I'll head out to some resort/beach. Planning Kadaltheerem (fishing allowed). Let me know if you are interested. I can arrange for everything but booze :)
