Shahid,
For drafting and filling a PIL from a good AOR,the cost would be about 40,000/-.If you get an OK lawyer,it would still be aroung 20,000/-.If you want to engage a good lawyer for the court appearances,it would be about 75,000/- per appearance, excluding the fee of the AOR.If you wish to engage a good lawyer at the closing stages,it might work out to about 3-4,00,000/-

If you can convince a lawyer to file the PIL,the cost would be almost nill.

Shahid, my heartfelt thanks to you for your generous open offer to launch a PIL to save our forests.

I am hardly flush with money at this moment. But, if someone is willing to take this up, I am willing to chip in with money.Even from distance, if required,I can provide clerical and research assistance. Let's do something before it's too late.Let's tell the Indian people that we,the gun lovers, are serious about conservation.

Best regards-
Vikram

Shahid

Great offer we can all chip in as Vikram pointed at least we tried but the road will be long one…

I was thinking how Theodore Roosevelt started http://www.boone-crockett.org/

Boone and Crockett club in 1887, one of the sponsors was editor of Field and Stream magazine ( founder I believe) and Leupold ( yes the scope company founder). I mean to Johns point India considers itself and has aspirations to be a power. It faces the same dilemma as US did around 1900s " the US was budding as a world power while at home a growing population had spawned a thirst for timber, agriculture land, minerals, fuel, water and meat. In name of taming west they had laid west to herds of wild buffalo and other wildlife.."

Isnt it strange that India doesnt have one magazine on lines of Field and Stream which atleast has articles related to faun and flora etc.

Cheers

Vikram

I am quoting from a Magazine--

Its said that term conservation was coined by Gifford Pinchot First head of US Forest Service ..this word Conservation after discussion between Teddy and Pinchot became a keynote of Teddy's admin.. it was soon defined in dictionaries as "prudent use without waste"

OK we are on. Lets go ahead full steam. A dear friend of mine Mohit Kumar Shah is a lawer in the Supreme court. What is the vote, we go ahead with him. Or do you have any suggestions for Lawers ? Maybe I can engage Salman Khursheed of our Congress I party as well. My cousin works as his assistant.

I will put up the expenses. Lets go ahead. Lets start drafting the PIL.

Vikram, you are welcome. IFG members who are students will only provide help and yeoman service. Established professionals will do the funding. Help in all forms is essential. Let us go ahead full steam and file our petition.

Now let's start brainstorming with the contents. Then we fix a flow chart and time frame for all our activites in this regard and allocate responsibilities with deadlines to all interested IFG members.

First we should hold a meeting in delhi and then we should discuss how to proceed further. For this every member who is intrested in filing a PIL should come in the meeting and give their opinions. I hope abhijeet will arrange a meeting point in delhi.

Shahid Bhai u let us know that when u will be able to come to india and we can plan the meeting.

Good Shahid, Please go for it, the opinion seems to be unanimous...while you are at it, can we also have a guns angle to this PIL, after all , we are a bunch of gun lovers, see?;)
Count me in, what spade work I can, from Noida, and will contribute.

Doc,

The gun angle will provide readymade ammo to the respondents. But great you have said that.

I always wondered ( this may not be the right thread for this but...) whether we can challenge the 1985 notification banning arms import by pooling resources. It is a suitable target via PIL and in my opinion a sitting duck. Also the single most irritant at least to me.

Gr8888 on your part Shahid...

And if we are getting Lawyer for free or relatively less cost then why not file different PIL's for Wildlife and Guns and while we are at it..why not use Mr. Pabla's white papers for controled hunting also. We are loosing so much to poachers. I am sure any judge in his right mind will surely rethink about Hunting Ban.

Guys, please go ahead, Don't let it die..ready to do my part if needed
