We respect your views "grewal". But I think this post is for those who consider hunting as a sport and not something as wanton killing. These are legally and ethically hunted birds. Ethically because they have been shot down in flight. A number of hunters in India(including Jim Corbett in his early years)shot sitting birds. In one book Corbett mentions that he had no regrets in doing so. As a child he had limited resources and did not come from a wealthy family. So he could not affort to miss his shot and had to make sure that he came back with something for the pot. With time as Corbett grew (in age and wealth) he picked up the "ethics" as well. He was also host to some Viceroy's on their bird (wild jungle fowl , duck , pheasant) shoots......and by then he had matured as a hunter. Taking shots only after the bird was in the air.
The basic funda of allowing the bird to fly .....is to give it a fair chance to flee. After all, if hunting is a game it should not be completely one sided.

Understand your sentiments,Grewal.
Do you eat, meat? Pheasants and chicken belong to the same family.Unlike cage bred & reared chickens, these birds had a free, happy and healthy life and taken legally and ethically while in flight. They will not be wasted as they will be eaten.
Rest easy.
Best-
Vikram

Dear Vikram,
That's a very important point you have raised (these birds have a free, happy and healthy life).
You know whenever I see our cows on the streets,I am forced to think about the "beef" which is raised in the west. In almost all Indian towns and cities you can see the "holy Cows" leading a poor (if not miserable) life, either tied to a "khoonta" or feeding on the "kooda" (garbage) . On the other hand you see cattle (in the west) raised for beef grazing freely in the green grasslands.
If I were an animal I would rather live a free and healthy lifestyle (even if it were for a shorter time) than lead a long, dung clad and dirty, unhealthy ,monotonous life.
....................and mind you , like most "Hindus" , I am not a beef eater.
