My old man just picked up a Scorpio as well... and he's pretty pleased with it thus far as is my 6 year old. The ride comfort is decent, though the softer suspension does tend the vehicle to a bit of roll, especially under heavy breaking. The pick up is great, as is the milage.

What could be better? The suspension, the window controls are only on the central console not on individual windows and I personally don't care for the door locking mechanism, though many prefer it. The 4x4 option is too damn expensive (relative to price). Lastly, and this may sound petty, but the latch on the dash glove compartment is really lousy.

What is really good? Price/ performance, ground clearance, paint job, security system (it is one of the most stolen cars in N. Indian states, so this is a welcome addition). Also, the widespread Mahindra service network means that it can be fixed pretty much anywhere. I hear the mileage is pretty good too.

Would I buy it? No, but then I have my heart set on the new Tata Xenon 4x4... just haven't been able to convince the wifey yet! :(

Cheers!

Tata Xenon reminds me of the Honda Ridgeline or my late friends Dodge Ram 1500 whatever its first model was back in 1999. The ride was some what hard he liked it because he could get the home depot stuff easily in the back and had the cab also. I personally feel that Mahindra makes better vehicles than Tata, take Safari. I really Liked Scorpio ride in India. My views on SUV is very different or morepragmatic and honestly even in states I recommend purchasing Minivan over a SUV because its more spacious comfortable and utilitarian compared to SUVs ( unless one is really into Hunting etc). I have many times folded the back seats and brought stuff vs expensive SUVs .

In that sense Toyota Innova is a great vehicle in India. I have been on quite bad roads in India in it again it depends on ones use, the most toughest vehicle for me always was Old Maruti.

Dear Sir,
Mahindra used to make better vehicles in olden days, Mahindra commander, 540D was the best at that time, but now a days Mahindra's quality is very poor.
I used Tata Spacio for 6 years, and drove more than 2.5 lac km. without any single problem. The Steel used in Tata vehicles is of much thicker gauge. Now I am using Tata Safari, which also has same higher qualities.

In my veiw, Mahindra Scorpio has only good looks, less inner space, with less legroom, un comfortable for long drives. The body is of thin steel, and of more fibre for decorative use.

Because of heavy weight and sturdy constuction Tata Safari had a more diesel consumption which led to a bad name to such a very good vehicle, but todays Tata Safari Dircor, with new Dicor 2.2 vtt engine, Tata Safari has a highest pick-up ( nearly 25 to 30% more than Scorpio or Xylo ), a very good consumption ( I am getting 15.5 to 16 km / lit on highway at 100km/hr speed ), with a very comfortable drive, smooth rides etc.

Once you travel in Safari I beleive that, you will never like Scorpio rides.

I have given the above information with my own experience, nothing else ; just to correct your feelings about Tata vehicles & Safari .

Dear Abhijit,

A very good choice, Tata Xenon has also Dicor 2.2 vtt engine, so Xenon will be any time better than the Scorpio,if you want Offroading, Xenon will be the best. Scorpio will give troubles while river crossing. Tata Safari has the highest ground clearance among all SUV's. Xenon also has nearly the same, for your reference I will give the specification,

Mahindra Scorpio
gross power 120bhp@4000rpm
max torque 290Nm@1800-2800rpm
ground clearance 180 mm

Mahindra Xylo
gross power 112bhp@3800rpm
max torque 290Nm@1800-3000rpm
ground clearance 186 mm

Tata Xenon
gross power 140bhp@4000rpm
max torque 320Nm@1700-2700rpm
ground clearance 200 mm

Tata Safari
gross power 140bhp@4000rpm
max torque 320Nm@1700-1700rpm
ground clearance 205 mm

You can easily check-up the Tata Xenon is better than Scorpio, So Do not Compromise

I bought Safari, when Xenon was not launched, Now You have a choice

Thanking you,

jaypreet
