Great report Mack The Knife... congratulations on the catch.

Am glad Shubaair is feelin better too! Kids falling sick on an outing like that is a real bummer... personal experience speaking!

BTW... you ever use a 'boilie' to catch carp?

Beautiful pics, Mack The Knife, and two great litle boys with an equally great dad who takes them out to show them the outdoors!

Sad that one of them fell ill - in any case, we mustn;t say this too many times, especially if he's going to be visiting the forums or he might miss the fishing more than rue the fact that he fell sick. One day's illness is one day lost fishing to a little boy's mind! :D

COngratulations to both of them on their achievements. They are going to grow up to be keen outdoorsmen, no doubt about that!

Cheers!

Mack The Knife,
The look of exultation on Shane's face is something I saw a year ago with the Morini too.Looks like you have a tiger in your hands Mack The Knife.
Congrats and God Bless you Shubair & Shane, thats a great Marral you have there!
At this rate, I know where my new Wychwood big pit carp reel is going to be with in a few years  The carp gang!

Asif,

The water level has risen, since you visited on 7th and 8th April.

Alexis and Gasramgandu preceded me by a week and caught a fair few mahseer from what one of the guards told me. Wanted to go through their trip report but in the rush to pack and leave it slipped my mind.

If you can avoid getting snagged in the weeds, there really is nothing to beat the old spinner and unlike some weedless top water lures you are almost guaranteed a hook set everytime. They should include one in every survival kit.

Herewith a few odd ball sights that I forgot to mention earlier:

1) Was mooching about the cottage with a mug of tea in one hand and a ciggie in the other listening to the dawn chorus when this flight of parrots came in from the south east and one parrot flies slap bang into the east wall of the cottage with a sickly thud. Fortunately, it did not break a wing and flew away after resting for a bit.

2) I was using a weedless top water rubber lure at Forbes when this fish eagle swoops down picks up the lure and takes off, only to drop the lure after he felt the drag.

3) The crocs are getting quite bold. Usually they used to slink off as soon as they saw you but this time we got to within 10 metres of one and whilst we were watching him move away, the ghillie saw another go right under the coracle. Bit spooky considering there was not more than five feet of water at that time.

4) Last but not least, Raju tells me that a croc recently killed a wild boar that had come for a drink at the cottage lake. The meat got sold for Rs.2,000.00

Hi Amit,

Unfortunately, this is the second fishing trip that Shubaair fell ill on. The first being in December 2005 at Galibore.

Never used a 'boilie' as you know it but the ragi ball that is used to catch mahseer is probably the original boilie. For big mahseer it is almost as big as a tennis ball and I use a tiny version of this (size of an almond) to catch rohu.

To say nothing of how the father feels... ;)

Thanks. I generally let them do their own thing, which usually takes the form of looking for various insects.  Not sure how much of the outdoors will be left by the time they start taking their children out.

What would that make your little fellow? Has he hammered any more kids twice his age?

That Free Pistol you recall Shane posing with is actually Shankar's TOZ.

You keep the Wychwood and let us have Shimano 10000 XTE-A.

This was the same chap who nearly took my top water lure the morning i was near the Power pylon,'croc end' with raju. This eagle was behaving like a 'stuka' and hit my lure on the retrieve -with a marral on it! lost both obviously
I was too scared to to do anything except give him some 'second hand' panjabi couplets-considering that my fear of falling into the water was supreme-this happened yet again, when I was reeling in- Raju picked up the paddle and pointed it like a gun and the eagle powered away, staying in high orbit. was your incident near the power pylon?
The crocs scare me a bit, they are very used to human presence- and vice versa-not a good thing at all, the familiarity- and its not a very comfortable feeling to have one of them go under the coracle !
Re the parrot, I had a similar incident with a bat, believe it or not-this one needed his radar to go in for extensive rehaul :)
Amir, sorry to say, is a major rowdy. Yes, he has hammered a kid twice his age and size-gave kulsum a bite and a fat lip and Mehr gets mauled by him every morning, all at 15 months of age.
Ok, the shimano 10000 it is. 8)
Lets do it soon-
Best

Very spooky.Guess they can very easily turn the coracle turtle if they wanted to.Are there any instances of crocs attacking humans at the Wasi lakes?

No. It was at Forbes - not too far from Head Gate.

That is what Sahadev said as well but I don't think the forest department will agree to cull a few. Far too many on the Jungle Lodges & Resorts stretch of the Cauvery as well.
Ok, the shimano 10000 it is.
Just joking, so don't do anything silly. My brother made a flying visit from the U.K. yesterday. Had I known he was coming I would have probably ordered a reel and rod.
Lets do it soon
I'm game. Preferably whilst the school holidays are still on and do try and make it for two full days this time. Best if you came before the monsoon really set in and bring Dev along. Not sure if Abhijeet and Sanjay would like to come but if they can, it would be great.
