No offence taken, but i place your kind of generalization in the same vein as some of those anti's who would like to ban all kinds of guns because criminals and some trigger happy 'untouchable' (read that as those who think they are above the law) happened to target some unfortunate individual who happened to challenge his pride. Hunters like the one pictured above did it basically to protect themselves or their livestock. It wasn't even for the sport as it is being done 'sustainably' by most modern hunters wherever it is allowed. I believe that this kind of hunting in its time was as healthy and sustainable as the forests themselves.
They were just a part of the natural 'balance of nature' that helped to keep the forests and its dwellers interdependent, healthy and ecologically vibrant and sustainable. Conservators and nature lovers must learn to value and differentiate such hunters where ever they survive to this day from the poacher who hunts due to greed and without respect and regard for nature. Countries which have learned to do so, have succeeded to maintain the balance of nature and found in the hunters a willful ally and reaped rich dividends by conserving their natural resources in a sustainable manner.
Speak softly and carry a big gun!
