Hi Prashant,
Enjoyed looking at these photographs, I liked the 'family' pic best, followed by the Jungle fowl. Now that must have been quite difficult to take , since they are so elusive!
Best Regards

Prashant,
Nice photos, liked the Crane snaps...

That's right Bespoke. That is Cheela range .
hvj1 and ngrewal. The "janglee murga" is indeed a colourful bird. But the most colourful of them has always eluded me. The Himalayan Monal (male) . The most spectacular amongst all pheasants. I have seen it in the wild but have never been able to capture it in my camera.
fanthumfan , I like the saras (in flight) with the sun coming down as well. But I wish those high tension wires in the background were not there.

Prashant,
Did you come across the Tusker with deformed tusk Its notorious for charging any moving vehicle or a person experienced it once myself, maybe "Good Dentist" can fix his trouble

Tuskers with a broken tusk are called "Ganesh". Interestingly most tuskers with deformed / broken tusks are known for their short temper. When a tusk breaks ,it exposes the inner layer of the tooth and at times the nerve , causing much pain. Anyone who has had a tooth ache will know what I am talking about...and when you have a tooth as big as that of an elephant , the pain is really bad. This is the reason for such (unprovoked) behaviour. Such elephants are in acute pain 24 X 7 .
The elephant you are talking about is quite famous in Cheela. I have a friend who was in his jeep and almost drove up to this fellow, who was actually hiding behind a tree and waiting. Fortunately my friend saw him in time and reversed before getting too close. He has this set of photographs where you can actually see the elephant peeking from behind a thick tree (almost camouflaged behind it) , stepping out suddenly, and finally charging towards the jeep.
There was another famous tusker called "Tipu" . I have a snap of him somewhere. He had been a study model for decades amongst wildlifers and died recently after a territorial battle with another big male.

Thanks for a very interesting and informative post indeed.
We hadn’t had a single interesting sighting that morning when we got charged by same tusker near forest chownki if i am not mistaken called "Khara Tilla" he was behind a river bank but luckily saw him come out almost 200 yards away and immediately reversed but he followed for some distance before again disappearing into jungle and interestingly when we were reversing the gypsy we saw a leopard dash across the track into a thicket was quite a sight and feeling to be between two beautiful animals in wild.

Khara Chowki / Khara Tila is called so because there is a salt lick close by.
There is also a family of Hyenas (lakkarbagga) which lives around that area. If you are lucky you can see one. These jungles are the northern most habitat of 5 species and are hence very important. The Elephant,Tiger,Sloth Bear,Hyena and King Cobra. i.e. you will not find these animals in the wild beyond (North of) Rajajji.
