Yesterday was first day of deer season (shotgun)in ontario. Went out after work and got a young buck....

Congratulations,Herb. Nice looking buck and tasty venison in the freezer. Is that a Harrington & Richardson slugger?Give us a bit of info on the stalk,gun,cartridge used,performance etc,please. Thanks for sharing.

Herb, congratulations! Looks like an excellent hunt. Like Vikram, I was also wondering if you are shooting a slugger or combo on this hunt. Also, no snow where you are at this time of the year? Thanks for the pictures!

Yes the gun is the H & R ultra slugger, very nice gun. The rifled barrel is accurate a little beyond 100 yards compared to the 35-40 yards of the smooth bore.
I sat in the blind for about an hour before sun set. I had a doe decoy at about 60 yards and used a doe call every 15 minutes or so, just a short call. This buck put in an appearance about 10 minutes before the end of legal shooting time. The buck did not take a further step after being shot in the neck with a Winchester supreme slug @ about 60 yards. The neck shot is lethal for deer with very less meat being spoiled.
