to all my friends who feel deforestation has nothing to do with monkeys and that we have enough forests:

In the last 20 years, forest cover has gone down and monkey menace has increased. Coincidence?

"lot of forest" ,"enough forest" : "lot" and "enough" according to who? You? Me?

All animals need a particullar amount of space to live. A tiger needs a minimun amount of acerage in the forest. Even humans need x amount of square foot of space for living per person.
Similarly just having 10 trees or even 1 million trees doesnt mean its 'enough forest '. It all depends on the number of monkeys.

There have been number of documentaries and articles associating monkey menace and deforestation.
And just because someones neighbourhood has a lot of forest doesnt mean there is no correlation between the two.

And yes the monkeys do adapt to city living. They are 20 times more intelligent than dogs. Once used to city, they wont go back to the forest.

There have city monkeys in the old part of the city i come from. My father has a surgery/clinic/day care centre there.

If the cleaners forget to keep the windows latched, they come in, wear the doctors apron (they see my father wear it), put the steth around their neck, take out the pills from the dispensing bottles and they have a taste for some partcular type of pill (i forget which) and they throw the rest about and will eat that particular type.
They cant read but still manage to correctly identify that type everytime from the cupboard whereas a pills (mostly) are white.

Regarding dogs: initially they are scared. Later they learn to ignore them as they learn that they cant be harmed as long as they are at a height. (this is my personal observation)

First of all, it was a satirical post to explain how pissed am I at those damn monkeys. I never even killed a bird and won't like to kill one without reason. Speaking of cops, good luck trying to get someone arrested in this remote part of India for posting a message on a forum. I'd like to mention a news I read in a local newspaper that a group of monkeys robbed (their food storage) a police station :D All are pissed, maybe I'll get arrested if I do it actually but posting it on forum falls in Freedom of Speech I guess. Monkeys aren't afraid of dogs here, I own a couple of dogs (Locally known as bhotua kukur) but monkeys doesn't give a damn about 'em. Well, if I had a camera I'd record how monkeys steal our jack fruits (I never even got a chance to taste jack fruits this year due to these monkeys) I guess that would make an interesting video on youtube.
About the lost I sustained from the power cuts, not much but $12 on my neobux account which was taken away for inactivity (That was the only money I had since the paypal banning incident)

PS: I'm back after that ever lasting blackout.
When I'll get to shoot a gun?

Priyan,

Not picking on you. But, freedom of speech goes with responsibility.Responsibility towards the forum and the implications one's speech has for it.You can vent and that is understandable and empathised with to some extent, but saying things that would cast responsible gun owners in bad light does not help anyone.

IFG does not believe in censorship or limiting freedom of expression. You do not even need to say things agreeable to majority. But, the expectation of responsibility to not say things that would reflect badly on gun owners is a part of the package.

Best-

Sorry to post anti-monkey post again but just after a week or so another monkey got caught in the transformer again and this time a blackout of 4 days (power came back just a few hours ago). I don't think human population can be controlled in this stage without opting the Nazi way so I guess we'll have to live with the monkeys stealing our jackfruit and pumpkin and squirrels stealing our areca nut.

The problem is that we have encroached into animal territory or we have created Islands of wild animals There are no natural links or corridors in which they can migrate or adjust to local changes. When we do not have or maintain a predator prey balance, the problem starts. Either our Wildlife authorities should re- populate wildlife areas or trans locate these animals to thinly populated areas or once extinct areas, on a regular and professional way or allow people to farm these excess animals as game animals inside enclosures and generate revenue from sport hunting as done in South Africa and America.Simply talking about Tigers endlessly and grind the same old batter is a waste full exercise . We must come out with practical and innovative solutions that will suit our country and regions within it . The subject of trans locating our Asiatic is still in the grinding mill. Cheetah Re introduction is also also a solution to Black buck and chital population explosion.

Whats the point? none of us are committed enough. Feels good to write on a forum so we can sleep peacefully at night. Blame it on the authorities and the system so it can keep our conscience guilt free.
