Fly Fishing in RSA

Post by kragiesardar » Sat Dec 18, 2010 7:08 am

Have never fly fished, guess it was waiting for me to fly half way across the world to RSA to learn. The kids tried it for a while and after the elder one lost one on his four pound tippet (which was somewhat light for the size of the fish we were catching) they lost intrest and figured catching crabs and putting them in water bottles was more fun.
I caught my first trout on fly, a nice healthy brown, Clayton called a beautiful rainbow. We used some nymphs and grasshoppers that Clayton had tied. Was a change from the hunting.

What a beautiful fish ----Rainbow Trout. True to it's name. So colourful.
The British brough trout into India more than a century ago and released them in the cold waters of the Himalayas. They have thrived in India ever since. There are some good angling spots in Kashmir, Himachal and Uttarakhand where one can fish. In most places it is catch and release. Permits are issued by the D.F.O.
