Yes, it is .32. The 'red thing' is very frankly I also dont know. Always there is I have seen it. Inherited from my father.

Sweet looking pistol, my congratulations :) That "red thing" is "moli" or the holy thread, it is also often tied to the hilt of swords/ the staff of spears - for religious reasons/ good luck... I would suggest you replace it often and take special care that no rust builds up under/ around the thread, as it is liable to attract/ retain moisture.

what if the thread is dipped in oil then tied?

would it help?
