Re: Merkel
Very nice guns there,Pelle. How does the 20 Bore feel to shoot? How much does she weigh?
And, what do you shoot with the 8X57? Do you have good boar shooting in Norway?
Thanks for sharing the photos.
Best-

Re: Merkel
The Merkel 20 bore weighs 2,85 kg,and with 71 cm tubes, she swings right good. However,I feel that 20 bores need a bit more force to shoot,if you know what I mean.I once had a 16 bore Merkel O\U,and that was maybe the best gun I`ve ever shot. There is something about the 16 bore......
I use the 8x57 for most of my hunting these days, and the rifle has taken two moose, and a gold medal roe deer buck so far.I bought this rifle just a couple of years ago.We don`t have wild boars in Norway, but a lot of them in Sweeden. They are now starting to cross our border....I also have a Merkel Drilling in 2x12bore,and 5,6x52R,for mixed shooting. We use drivin`dogs a lot,and most of the time we use combination guns, shooting roe deers, foxes, and hares in front of the dog.

Dear Pelle,
I am curious to know how the scope works on a s*s rifle, how accurate is the rifle. I was under the assumption that rifles were always bolt action rim fire.
Regards,
drifter.

Re: Merkel
And what would you then call a centerfire semi-auto, lever action, slide action, or falling block, if they are not rifles? If the barrel is rifled, it's a "rifle". (There are also various shotguns with rifled bore, but chambered for shotshells; hence called shotguns, though technically rifles.)drifter wrote:Dear Pelle,

A scope works just fine on a SxS or O/U rifle, as long as the barrels are regulated for a scope. If a scope is fitted to a double regulated for open sights, only one barrel will shoot true to the scope.

Re: Merkel
Dear Tworivers,
Thanks for opening my eyes, I have actually fired a rifled shotgun a few years ago completely forgot.

I learnt something new today.(There are also various shotguns with rifled bore, but chambered for shotshells; hence called shotguns, though technically rifles.)
