The Butterfield Threshing Bee
In south central Minnesota lies the little farming community of Butterfield. Every year they host an event called the Butterfield Threshing Bee. There one can see a wide variety of farming equipment of yesterday showcasing antique tractors, antiques cars, stationary steam engines, eat great food and experience a convivial atmosphere.

This year a bunch of us went there to enjoy the sights. The theme this year was John Deere equipment.

A sea of green and yellow was displayed in the field.

Antique tractors, cars and equipment came from a wide variety of locations. It was a beautiful Minnesota fall day with very little humidity and moderate temperatures. The intense heat we had earlier this year has decimated the insect life in the area and there were no bugs. No flies, chiggers, ticks, gnats, mosquitoes; nothing to mar the gorgeous day.

So posted here for the enjoyment of antique car and tractor aficionados are some photos and videos.

Rumely Oilpull tractors make a very distinctive sound. You can feel each detonation in the engine as it goes by.

What beautifully maintained cars. Interesting to see how the cars have evolved over the years.
But tractors remains very much the same in their basic design.
Thanks for the report. Didn't you go there last year as well?

A couple of years ago I was at a location where they had a tractor pull and one of the tractor's wheels came off. I believe I posted photos of that.

Most tractors have stayed looking about the same except for some of the big behemoths like the John Deere 9r series. Their cabs look like the cockpit of an aircraft. They have GPS and Auto-Steer (yes, they will steer themselves). They can hold a straight line better than many humans can and they can deliver up to 560 HP! They are articulated and have enough lights on them that they can run 24 hours a day, if need be. It can even call you with status updates when someone else is working it.

Here is a John Deere video that shows some of today's tractors: Click HERE
