Re: Air pistol for Self Defence
antis are very funny people, when Dunblane happened in UK, there was large anti guns group. now Dunblane shooting involved autos and school kids. the same antis went to Spain when a man with a rifle came to a school and shoot some students. Because a gun was involved the antis of Dunblane showed them selves in Spain in sympathy.
Now around the same time"
i think it was in Winchester England when a man with a machete goes loony in a yes you have guessed a school and cuts up the teacher and others. Not a word was said by the same antis. school kids got hurt right? so what was missing? guns! no guns no sympathy.
the fact a human being was hurt by a weapon is not the point with the antis. they only cared for those if only guns were used.
many who were involved at Dunblane anti guns have in the pass few years acknowledged that by banning small arms in UK not reduced the crime rate what so ever.
funny lot these antis

Re: Air pistol for Self Defence
Well the chap who started this post had in mind some sort of mumbai like situation on 26 nov. A scene of bloodbath where general public was sitting ducks at the railway station for more than an hour. even the photographer took ample shots in 20 minutes while he was hiding on the platform. you cant watch the cookie crumble for that long. I will suggest get a gunsafe in your car if u that crazy about having one, keep the weapon locked all times and only pull it out when you see mass murders around. personally i will never carry a weapon. rather learn some techniques from your relative in army, may be combat knife or something will be better . but getting back to rifles cause pistols are for pussies and they will get you killed, without firearm lisence idea is to have a powerful precharged rifle 1800fps range capable to fire .22 cal pellets will easily puncher lungs. only if someone had one of those in his car boot outside the station.. damn atleast one of them would have surely gone down then and there.

Well... those type of air-rifle DO REQUIRE an arms license (as per law), so they would be bereft of that benefit (of being able to own one without a license)....eagle_eye wrote: without firearm lisence idea is to have a powerful precharged rifle 1800fps range capable to fire .22 cal pellets will easily puncher lungs. only if someone had one of those in his car boot outside the station.. damn atleast one of them would have surely gone down then and there.

Re: Air pistol for Self Defence
my humble little opinion -
put an application for CCW license and attach your reasons for wanting to own one.
Let them decide if they want to give you one or not.
You will either land up with no gun or a CCW owing to real cause of concern, BTW, the government is considering relaxing the licensing requirements and this can be your chance.

I am getting one rifle cabinet in the last row of my safari fixed for the same purpose, boasting finger scan lock and concealed.
Waiting for my rifle license which is causing me concern already .
There are two type of people ,ones who like to blood bash for the sake of it and others who want to stop it for the moral responsibility and good of it, the bad thing is that there is no law supporting the later types.

Abhieet,
You were right in thinking that victim must have tried to scare the shooter. As per today's DNA (I have stopped my subscription of TOI after that pro gun ad fiasco )it was same case. Victim pulled out his gun and intimidated the shooter in response he got four bullets pumped into his chest. As per the paper shooter is on the run.
This is a nice case for self defense don’t you guys think so

Re: Air pistol for Self Defence
A couple of thoughts-
Best way to use an air pistol for defense is to tie it to a cricket bat, then hit the person with the bat!
As mentioned, using a gun to bluff someone is stupid and/or dangerous. If you get shot and killed the other person can claim you threatened all sorts of things, and you'll be too dead to refute it. It is not to even be ever considered.
The best (and ONLY) method to defend yourself is to become politically active for change, so that a person is legally entitled to carry the equipment needed t defend themselves.

Re: Air pistol for Self Defence
i think the best solution would be the natural kind, i mean if it works for skunks why should it not work for humans? yes couple of stink bombs in back pocket should do the trick , also useful if a mass anti gathering is taking place it would soon clear the air, has many applications, it can be used for a very quick entrance into the army as well. no license needed, will go past xrays, best of all no club membership is required.(and do not collect $200. go to jail)

Re: Air pistol for Self Defence
In much of (at least North) India the chances of your assailant being armed with a locally made handgun AND his willingness to use the same is extremely high... you'd be signing your own death warrant by going out armed with a sub-4 ft/lb air-pistol... the sound and appearance of the air-pistol will do little to protect you when real bullets start to fly thick & fast... if you are looking for a self defence application, best to get a real gun or if that is not possible confine yourself to a pepper spray/ hand held stun gun. Carrying a replica or an air-pistol for self defence is a sure shot recipe for disaster!eternalme wrote:Pepper sprays are much better , if the air pistol in question is break barrel IHP .
I think desert eagle .177 , has much better chance in auto mode though if fired at face of the intruder owing to the sheer fire power and sound it gives off.
(Based on the online reviews, no personal experience ).
Cheers!
