I was doing some calculations on our small .22LR cart, please find below the Kill zone
Data based on the following inputs -

Drag coefficient .163 (standard round nosed).
Weight 45 grains (sample to match drag coeff).
initial muzzle velocity 1070 (Averaged).
Zeroed at 50 Meters.

Now with little lighter bullet

Drag coefficient .114 (standard round nosed).
Weight 27 grains (sample to match drag coeff).
initial muzzle velocity 1040 (Averaged).
Zeroed at 50 Meters.

As you can see .22LR light bullet is hardly able to penetrate a 1 one inch thick wood plank, if someone can take care of -594 inches of drop .

Would like to do the same for CCi stinger bullets , if anyone can provide me Drag coefficient and the grain weight please ?

Damn impossible to get hit by a .22 LR at 1000 meters and get a scratch, probably a hornet .223 at 40 grains should be looked at , next post will be about the same.

Wow, good analysis.

Many people tend to under rate the .22lr. People use it to kill animals the size of large steers (beef cattle) and horses on farms,slaughter houses etc. One shot -one kill basis.

That is point blank range , even some places they use bolt killer, max pressure generated is 60 foot/pound , much lesser that 110 FP of .22 LR at muzzle.

Except point blank the range aspect of .22LR is quite poor , though somewhere I had read a mention of 1.5 Km lethal hit.
Probaly in the link you have provided above, based on ballistics and external ballistics its a rarest probability considering the fall of -4183 inches at 1000 meters.

Isn't it a bit academic? If you want to make 1000 metres kills, there are better cartridges. .22lr has a place and that certainly is not shooting at 1000 metres. Apart from .17 HMR, there is no other round as useful,versatile and effective as .22lr on small game and for target practice.It would consistently group an inch at 100 yards in a decent rifle.

, but the current topic was .22 LR lethal range, otherwise its very good round and I think in suburbs this is the best suited SP round.
No wonder Israel has used it in past in various operations around civil locations.

Please refer to table above at 100 meters the power is 92 and 49 respectively , and its lethal force, if placement is right.

thanks eternalme actually iam a starter in this field so i have to get used to it about the technicalities of the sport. for me its no more than rocket science....all i wanted to ask is in a 200 mtr range will it penetrate the body ?

I will have to politely refrain from answering topics considering penetration of body please.

There is no simple answer. Where on the body the bullet impacts, what clothing it has to penetrate, all play a role in depth of penetration and lethality. At 200 yards it would hardly be a self-defense proposition, though. In any case, I would not want to be hit with a .22 RF bullet at 200 yards.

Self defence at 200 yards? Would look more like murder to the judge.Self defence would be at a couple of yards and not 100's of yards. Have you ever come across a 1000 yard range in India? 300 meter ones are hard enough to find.

Just shows what a little bit of knowledge and a whole lot of skill can achieve.The distance is pretty short as well.

A .22lr has been tested at 300 m with turkey meat stuffed inside a shirt and a jacket. The result showed that a bullet travelling at 1200fps went from front to back. I had found the test somewhere and put it on the forum. But suffice to say I will not volunteer to be downwind of a .22lr anytime in a hurry.

gents lets try to get one thing in order

there are two terms to think about .
1/ max range ie how far can it go before dropping to ground.
2/ in military terms effective killing range.

these two points are different one to each other.

also you can have .22 round which is longer then ur normal rounds thus contain more power.
and shot placement is something else.
