Indians For Guns

Hey people,
With great difficulty, I finally persuaded my Dad to sell his .22 IOF and buy an imported one. I have a BRNO or a Krico or a CZ in mind. It has to be a bolt action and in excellent condition. Please suggest me a good rifle that I'll be glad to transfer on to my license when I turn 21(2 more years to go). What in the world is micro rifling? Is there any .22 rifle that has it? n what is the difference between a rifle with it and without it?

Well the Cz and Brno are identical for all practical purposes, and you cant go wrong with either.
It really depends on what your objective is. If it is to compete... then I would reccomend trying to get one of the competition models from the likes of Anschluz.
If it is just plinking.. a decent Brno Model 2 or Cz 452 is a good choice.

Its not a bad idea but locating a decent .22 is a task in itself. I know a friend of mine who has been trying to locate one and once he did it didnt make any "money sense" most of the Brno have a very checkered history. It could be a good gun smithy project to try modifying or upgrading like Mack The Knife and others have done it such as glass beading, crowning etc. Then every one to their own.

By "micro rifling" do you mean "micro groove"?

Micro groove rifling is a process used by Marlin firearms for virtually all of their 22's and some centerfire cartridges too. An excellent article explaining it can be found here:

I'll go out on a limb here, and say that as long as a gun hasn't been abused or chronically neglected most bolt action 22's can outshoot their owners. Additionally, most of them can still use some additional tweaking here and there so if you buy something that you like you will most likely be satisfied as well.

any ideas on what the price of a nice good conditioned Cz 452 would be ?

I know of a Krico in very good condition. I would even dare to say it is excellent except that I have had but a brief look. Check your PM

"Brno" and "CZ" are one and the same. Brno being the Czech name of the city where the factory is located (Bruenn in German), while "CZ" is the trademark. Finish varied over time, but was always at least as good as that of its clones (Chinese). In all its forms, it's a very sturdy and serviceable rifle. If anything, it is overbuilt for a .22 RF, something I like. You can't go wrong with it. An Anschuetz would be far more expensive, and unless on the 54 action, not the gun the CZ is. Looks don't count. Cheers.

I was thinking of buying a .22 hornet rifle with an adaptor for .22lr? What are the ballistic differences in the .22 hornet and the .22lr?

The .22 Hornet gives about two and a half times the velocity of a .22 RF, and that with a heavier 45 grain bullet. I am not aware of any .22 Hornet to .22 RF adapter being available, as the Hornet case is really too small to allow that . If you are in a location where you can reload, you could load the Hornet down .22 RF velocities; and create something like the old black powder .297/.230 Morris. Cheers.

Interesting but what about the ammo availability of the .22 hornet ammo in India. If, it is easily available, I'll probably convince my dad to buy a hornet.

Yes 22 hornet ammo is available in india. I cant say if it is easily available.
