springfield .30-06???

Post by bettymoo » Sun Mar 08, 2009 12:52 pm

I read somewhere on this forum that the springfield .30 is fairly common in India? I ve never actually seen one? I recently posted about getting a .303 smle, but since that isnt possible, I'd be more than willing to settle for a springfield, or any ww1- ww2 bolt action.

You may be able to get a 03 Springfield in 30-06, or a 'Hyderabad Rifle' these are the enfield P-14, again in 30-06, if you search around. Most were sold to Defense personnel, so there.Expect to pay between 80k to 3 times that, deppending on who's ripping you off!

There are plenty of M1 Garands floating around. Unfortunately most have been converted to single shot which is a real shame.

Eljefe: Just to avoid confusion, "an Enfield P14, again in .30-06" would be an "M17 Enfield". P14 = .303, M17 = .30-06, same basic rifle, but different calibers, and designation. Cheers.

I guess they got here, when they spread across the world. WWII :P

My family had a semi-auto one complete with a bunch of ammo head stamped FA 42 and FA 43. I remember firing off a ton of that, at targets and wild boar mostly. (Hunting was legal then).

Sold it when my dad passed away, since there was no way for me to take the weapon out of India. Would have loved to though. My suspicion is that since then it has been butchered and sold onto some eager beaver for a 200% markup.

I used to have a Garand some years ago, sold it for 12000/- due to lack of ammo. I feel like an idiot now! waaah!

I would advise you take it one step at a time, first get the license and then try and figure out which rifle to buy...
