Re: Rifle Id quiz
Observations :-
1. A beauty !!
2. Lovely walnut stock with very nice grain flow.
3. Tapered Barrel
4. Monte carlo stock , good checkering and a nice recoil pad.
5. Nickled trigger, bolt and partly action too.
6. Powder coated and not blued.
7. Third picture has some numbers etched on the chamber similar to IOF style.
8. There is a metal strip around the wrist just underneath the bolt, very much like RFI .315.
9. Near sight is similar to RFI .315 too
My guess :-
RFI .315 with a new custom made stock.

Re: Rifle Id quiz
Can't think of the fellow's name right now, but there is a smith in Ferlach who is making them up in .405 Winchester and .444 Marlin. And I think that's what it is. I'll take one of each. Goes to show that with enough love and hard work you can turn a sow's ear into a silk purse. Cheers.

RFI .315 with new sights, new stock, integral magazine, button release magazine floor plate, new trigger guard, hot blued(the grainy surface is because of the how the metal is finished),re-machined receiver and slicked up bolt.

OK.. Let me take a wild shot at this.
Is this the IOF 30.06 rifle, yet to be released. Maybe some one (a very lucky one) has had the chance to spruce up some parts on a sample piece?
The sights do look similar, and so does the band between the trigger & the bolt; and so does the shape of the butt...
Its the magazine part and the bolt head thats seen customization

Is this the IOF 30.06 rifle
I dont think it is a IOF 30.06. Reasons being :-
1. 30.06 has a butter knife bolt handle. Why would anyone want to change it?
2. 30.06 has a two piece stock which clearly the firearm in question hasn't.
best,
RP.
