Indians For Guns

One of my closest friend had almost finalised MARLIN .22lr 39A GOLD , 24 inche micro grooving barrel , underlever action Rifle in excellent condiction for 1l. He wanted that last minute advice , anyone has any experience using this stuff hands -onn ..cheers James

Hi James, The Marlin Model-39A Gold, is a U/leaver action 24" octagon or round barrel with tube magazine which holds 18-rds for (22-LR), 20-rds for(22-long) & 25-rds for(22-short) the sights are open-Rear & bead-Front. The walnut stock is uncheckered pistol-grip if original. The weapon was introduced in 1960 & the trigger of the rifle is Gold-plated the price for excelent one is $220 as compared to $395 for a excelent BRNO as per values.
The 39A at 1! is expensive, A bolt action Brno with detachable mags/scope rails/adjustable rear aim.would be much better than the U/leaver action tubler mag/open rear sights etc...

I dont think that the blue book values apply in India. The prices are really wierd as is availability.

All things being equal.. the Brno would be a better choice. I would probably hold out for one, even though they are significantly more expensive in India I believe.

The Marlin isnt a bad rifle, I would get one over an IOF despite my ' Mera Bharat mahaan' attitude.

I consider the 39a to be the best lever 22, and one of the best 22 rifles, ever produced. If you like lever action rifles you will not be disappointed in this model gun no matter how long you live.

It's a lovely rifle and I have always been partial to lever actions. A friend has an excellent example but when it comes to accuracy my IOF bolt action rimfire is far better. I don't know why - perhaps the ammunition we have used so far does not suit the rifle.

Having said that, if I found one in good condition for 50 to 55K, I would sell my IOF and buy it.

"as per values" must date from a time when the Brno could not be imported into the US. The Marlin M39 retails for considerably more than the Brno M452 bolt action; with the basic model about half the price of the Marlin. Cheers.

Also consider the henry .22LR. This lever action is the smoothest ever. I have one & I love it

The Marlin 39A is very highly regarded in the USA. They continue to sell well here despite their high price. It is a rifle that will last several lifetimes. The Brno too is a fine rifle and I think the choice between them is largely a matter of preference of action type.
