Hi! everyone,
Has anyone ever tried reloading .315 cartridge? Are the materials - primer, gunpowder and bullet-head available?

i thought of that once, but gave up as i never came across any one who does reloads here in India. also am not sure what the law says about home made rounds.

as far as i can make out home reloads are not prmitted by law. shame really. hope others can throw some powder on this subjet.

On the otherhand, not entirely impossible if you put your mind to it.. Of course factory made primers are only available for 12 bore cartridges but with a little bit of experimenting you will discover that toy pistol caps also work just fine. Of course you need to salvage the old primer cap for this. All ofb centrefire brass cartridges are of the berdan type and one has to enlarge one of the holes to knock out the used primer cap (dont damage the anvil) in india we only have access to blackpowder (rarely) of the shelf and this somewhat limits/affects the quality of the reload. But beggars can't be choosers I guess.
Regarding the law, IMHO the arms act dosent address it and it is left to the translation of the powers that be. Which is really unnerving and dangerous.!

Hi JAM, I'll assume that you are not in India, but the UK, in which case everything should be available, or able to be ordered from the US or Germany. Bullets are regular 8mm/.323". Woodleigh makes an excellent 250 grain one, which is close to the 244 grain standard bullet. Bullet moulds for casting your own lead bullets are available from several sources. Dies are 8x50R Steyr/Mannlicher, a special order item from RCBS. Cases are no longer made anywhere (but India), but Boxer-primed, Serbian-made cases for the 8x56R are available, and can be resized and shortened. Loading data is not available, but that has never stopped an intrepid handloader. So, the answer would be yes, though I am not sure you could manage it in India. Cheers.

Keeping aside its legality lets have a thought on what Jonahpack suggested. We might be able to salvage the primer and reuse it but, it seems to me that we still haven't got a clue where to get the bullet head.

Yes, TwoRivers, I am in the UK. I put up this topic because when I was in India I always wanted to do some shooting but counln't really afford to do so. Likewise, I believe there might be someone like me in India. I am trying to find out a cheaper way for them. As you said, if I tried I would be able to reload it in the UK. But, anyway, the bore or the cartridge is not my choice here. There are a lot more interesting cartridges.

It would be interesting to know more about the subject.

I certainly would not reccomend using toy pistol caps etc...
Most importantly I would not reccomend trying to convert a Bredran primed cartridge to a Boxer type.. would almost certainly compromise the integrity of the case.

That being said... if you are using black powder... dont expect simillar performance as the smokeless stuff. But you will be less likely to blow your self up.

As for bullets.. dimensions are available and maybe you could have someone with a lathe make you some.

All in all would just reccomend buying the ammo. Not worth the headache in India.

i think that reloads in India are some way off for .315.

i have't came across anyone who has gunpowder in the shops etc, relaod mechine are not here yet. then as all ways the legal issue is there.

In the UK or else where this is not a problem. As cases can be made and heads can also be gotten. However i have not come across .315 in UK.

if one wants to shoot .315 in India then u are left with the local ammo. Or if one has the legal paper work done so one can bring from out of India the ammo required.

still i would be intersted to learn if anyone have done safe reloads here. And i mean safe as my face is one time issue and can not be replaced. (ya am very handsome, any way mummy says so.)

before you start hand loading get a reloading licence as it is a legal pre requisite in india

There is nothing like a 'reloading license'.Reloading for personal use alone ,is allowed as per a notification of the Home Ministry.Capping,de-capping and turn over machines are also excluded from the provisions of the Arms Act as long as they are used for the aforesaid purpose and not to re-load for sale/commercial use.Whether re-loading is allowed in India or not,has been discussed earlier and you would find the relevant notification in the previous thread on this.

Arms dealers with a license to repair arms also can 'repair' ammunition.They however can't re-load spent cartridges.

This said,getting components and the data for reloading is not possible as their import is banned and no one sells these in India.

so thats that then? no reloads!

Yes this would definitely be a good find. I have looked around for such examples and found none till date.
