I`ve been looking for an LST ( the 16" barrelled 336 ) for ages ( and ages ! ) and finally found this one last ...... Friday I think. Drove up and bought it on Sunday...........along with a take-down .22 Hornet - something else I`ve been looking out for.

Wow Grumpy congratulations on such a beauty. I am just discovering the joys of precision match rifles. Its crazy when you shoot a half inch group of five shots at 50m. Suspect i'm a closet ISSF fan.Grumpy";p="40713 wrote: I think I`m in love...........................................

LOL - very good..................
A half inch group @ 50 yards ? That`s a one inch group @ 100 yards.
Hmmm - LSTs will shoot one inch groups.
`Match` rifles come in all shapes and sizes.
Apparently.

Re: Marlin 336 LST 30-30.
Centrefire Target rifles have to shoot fractional MOA groups to be competitive :
The last I heard the centrefire benchrest record at 100 yards was a ten shot group of 0.052". The 1000 yard record was 3.151".
One inch groups at 100 yards are nothing special and plenty of hunting rifles can easily shoot much smaller groups.

Grumpy,
I am not sure if you saw the pics that were posted in the Events forum but Dev was shooting prone off a hard floor without the assistance of a shooting mat, jacket, sling or glove.
A 1/2" group for a beginner under those circumstances was exceptional, bordering on Olympic standards, shooting.
Dev, before that goes to your head let me tell you that I have shot similar groups under absolutely similar circumstances, including freestanding with a plain vanilla Brno Model 1 but I would never be able to maintain this level of accuracy consistently and that is what you need to train yourself to do.
If you are serious, I can send you my jacket, sling and gloves as I don't recall when I last used them. The jacket should fit you as it was stitched for me when I only resembled a juvenile whale.

Re: Marlin 336 LST 30-30.
Mack The Knife, I didn`t actually realise that Dev was referring to his own shooting ability and my comments referred to the capabilities of target rifles rather than those who shoot them. I very much doubt that I could shoot 1/2" groups with iron sights `off the shoulder` any more.........In fact I`m certain I couldn`t !
Well done Dev.

Yeah, the handling is superb.
I`ve got to carry out some modications to make it spot on though. It needs a comb raiser, lower mounts with a more appropriate scope and the shiny finish removed as it will be horribly slippery in the rain.
