Check the twist rate of your rifle and if its 1:12 or faster, it will stabilise the lighter bullets. 45-55gr
When you order the ctgs, write to the manufacturer to find out what the ‘materials’ are. Usually brass or gilding metal iacket with a lead core. Some like nosler SHOTS or the Hornady have a plastic tip to better the BC. But for rec shooting, if it groups MoA...

I’ve looked at about 6 different brands of factory ammo, ranging from Norinco to hornady to OSA to Barnes and also at all my projectile cartons of the .223, and dont see the composition of the projectiles mentioned anywhere. Matter of fact, I went on this wild goose chase to see if I could help in answering your question. Nada, Zilch, zero.
All I know is cup and core projectiles are drawn from an alloy of cupro- nickel and swaged with a lead core. I have swaged .223 into 9.3mm and .40 cal pistol cases into.422” as an experiment and found they worked well on paper.
Monometal bullets like Barnes and CEB,are CNC machined from copper stock. If you are interested in paper punching, not competition per se, why this inordinate interest ?

,223 Remington is NPB but 5.56x45mm NATO is not IMHO. Identical dimensions butt very significant PSI difference. Can shoot former in Latter but not vice versa. Not dissimilar to .308 Win and 7,62x51mm NATO.

I agree, caliber .223 should certainly be NPB but only for a bolt action rifle. Semi-automatic will be restricted as .223 is a centerfire cartridge and only rimfire semi-automatic .22 rifles are allowed as NBP. As Marksman mentioned, 5.56 NATO should never be fired out of a rifle chambered for .223 remington due to significant difference in chamber pressures.
I doubt you'll find .223 ammunition in India as none of the licenses except few manufacturers have been given that caliber (I'm not sure yet). We have 5.56 NATO ammunition on our licence but .223 remington is not far away and we'll bring in the ammunition as soon as we decide to bring a bolt action .223 remington sporting rifle to India market, it will be highly dependent on demand.
Best,
Mohit

.223 Remington Cartridges are definitely available in India.
I have a friend who uses it for Angling.
He has a private lake on his farm.
Shoots from a Machan.
The fish are pretty big 2-3 Ft.easy.
I am not sure on the Grain of Cartridges,he uses.
Their is always a confusion between PB and NPB.
I will attempt to clear this in a simplified manner.
All Bores which are used (in service) by the Indian Armed Forces,Police,BSF,CRPF
And other Government Departments (Central and State) come other PB.
The most common being 9mm(9X19mm Parabellum/9mm Luger),
.38(.380 Mk II & .38/200) and .303.
Their are many other variants of 9mm and .38
(.38 ACP, .380 ACP,.38 Super,.38 S&W Special,.357 S&W Magnum etc.),
Which come under NPB.This is a little complicated.
One can have an extremely difficult time convincing the Licencing Authorities.
The policy of PB was started by the British in India, which is still in-force.
This was done so that civilians did not have access to Government Arms and Ammunition.
A armed revolt/uprising in those days, would require a large supply of Arms and Ammunition.
This was available only with the Government, hence the Prohibition.
I have tried to explain in very general terms without getting too technical.

Hi winnie_the_pooh,
Sorry, If I confused you by using the word 'Angling'.
My Friend has a Rifle in .223 Remington.
He has built a Machan on top of a tree, which is on the edge of the lake,
The lake is situated in his private farm.
He shoots the Fish (when they come towards the surface) with his Rifle.
I am not good at identifying fish, so don't know the specie.
On bright sunny days, they come to the surface, mostly between 11.00 hrs. to 14.00 hrs.
Head shots are taken, shooting lower may bring refraction into play, thus compromising accuracy.
Once hit, the fish float on the surface, which is easy to retrieve.
Regards,
Jr.

In the website of Vinveli in commercial center fire section
It is mentioned that it is available in .223 and 30 06. Perhaps CZ is planning to make CZ600 series in these both calibre. Maybe we should request the company through contact menu to make .223 Remington rifle soon. Because this calibre will be most fun to shoot and for long range target practice.
