Indians For Guns

Can anyone help me in purchasing a rifle of anyone of these .303, .308, 30-o6, .315. I prefer the pre-owned one with a valid licence, ofcourse which is transferable to my state Mizoram. I hope you guys will help me in my quest. Thank you all guys.

Brother, .303 and .308 are prohibited bore rifles. You will require a Prohibited Bore License (which is next to impossible to acquire). And talking about .30-06 and .315 rifles, I would recommend you buy brand new rifles. IOF makes good rifles. And the imported ones are very expensive.

When we talk about prohibited bores, what we actually mean is the cartridge.The .308 is very much legal in India . What is prohibited is any firearm chambering the 7.62 x 52 mm cartridge used by the Indian armed forces. This basic difference needs to be understood. Its the cartridge that is illegal, not the bore

.308 ammo is not availaible in india go for .30.06 or .315 which would be little cheaper and .303 is PB

Do you mean 7.62 x 52 or 7.62 x 51?

7.62 x 52 mm is the cartridge the Indian Army and Paramilitary use in their SLRs and hence weapons chambering this cartridge is prohibited legally. However 7.62 x 51 mm is the .308 cartridge and as far as I know is not prohibited.

There is no such cartridge as 7.62x52 mm

It is 7.62x51 mm similar to the .308 win.......both these cartridges are similar but not same........they can be fired in the same rifle if the rifle is rated for both the types....the case thickness, preassure is different....308 win cases are more suitable for reloading .......308 win ammo can be imported by shooters for matches it is not prohibited but it will be hard time explaining to the authorities because of the similarity

Go for .3006. You will get variety of ammunition (Ex. S&B, Federal, Winchester, PPU, RWS etc.) Price of IOF is reasonable at 1.3 l to 1.5 l depending on state. If you are lucky you may a fair condition old imported Rifle at a reasonable price.

Quality ammo for other mentioned Rifle are difficult to get in India at a reasonable price.

I agree with ASIF007....30-06 is good choice ......always buy guns for which ammo is available or else it will be like buying a road roller

Never heard of 7.62x52 mm. As per Wikipedia, .308 Win and 7.62x51mm NATO both have 51.2mm as their case length.
BTW this is a never-ending debate. Many have indulged into this many times all over the Globe.

Apart from overall length and case length there is slight difference in every other mesurement and these slight differences is a huge deal when you are dealing with high power firearms

I buy ex army 7.62x51 fired cases in 5 kilo bags for myself and 2 friends. They Have fluting and sometimes rough extraction marks as they’re usually ex MG fired.
They all go bang and do bloody good out of 3x bolt action .308 rifles and form easily to 7mm-08 in another rifle. All MOA results,with minimal case prep and using standard factory data and easily available projectiles.
Yes the case thickness and other parameters are slightly different for the service use 7.62x51 BUT for all purposes they’re the SAME.
While there is concern in various internet information pieces about the 50,000 PSI CUP (copper units of pressure) of the 7.62x51 Vs the 62,000 PSI of the .308, it must be remembered that the .308 pressures were evolved using a piezoelectric transducer and on conversion, they are approximately the same
The chambers in a 7.62x51 SLR or FAL will be a bit loose and sloppy- normal feature in service rifles, to accomodate the vagaries of service conditions and ammo, a .308 GO GAUGE may be a bit sloppy in the 7.62x51 chamber, does not totally preclude the use of .308 in it.
There is absolutely no change required in load data when using 7.62x51 cases in standard .308 chambered rifles. Whether using the 144 gr service bullet load or the 168 gr hunting load.
Unless you’re using a tight / no neck turn chamber rifle for competition. Then, Palma cases with small primer pockets are the way to go.
But for the scope of this discussion they’re the same.
