What Calibre? .177 you can import online ( Rifle club Membership compulsory). buy from shops / this forum = .177/.22
You have a choice of Walther, Weirauch, Diana and various models depending on availability of $$$$

Ask Google baba first and try short list a few based on your requirements. Members here will then be able to better help you make a final decision based on your Choices.

I am a complete newbie in the world of air rifles. Here is an answer to some of your questions.
1 I want to use it for target practice. I am an animal lover,so I will never use it for hunting. But if you are a good marksman, it's always fun to shoot pests like rodents.

2 what Caliber? I don't know, but I will always perfect the one with biggest of all, that doesn't need a license.

3 spring piston or pcp? Like I said I am new to this world, so I don't know but I will always prefer whichever is easy to operate. As far is it is accurate of all
4 about the budget, I can spend up to 40k as far is that rifle is good, reliable and last for a generation. Again I am new to this so don't know if 40 k is less or do i have to increase my budget.

I am an. IT professional so making the membership of shooting club might be a lengthy procedure, which might involve around an year. Therefore I will prefer to purchase it from a dealer instead of importing it and going through those lengthy procedures.

I think I might go for a Multi Stoke Pneumatic as mentioned, it has no recoil and is used at Olympics. I think .22 caliber will be a better option, it has more firepower. Additionally I would like to have a sniper scope for the air rifle.

If you wish to compete with it...Go for .177 cal as .22 is not allowed in competition.

I hope you know that as the name suggests, a multipump needs to be manually pumped multiple times to get one shot with decent power. Can assure you that these are no where close to the rifles currently being used in the Olympics.

My honest suggestion would be to get a good Indian made air rifle. The better made ones are more accurate than what most guys are capable of shooting.
Get the one with gas/nitro piston in .22

Thank you for the suggestion, as I am still doing me research. Therefore for ease a gas / nitro will be the best option? So can you tell me, how much would such rifle cost in Delhi?

Cock and shoot. Thats it. How easy or difficult it is, is relative.

Most website have the prices for the nx100 in .22 so i guess that will give you a ballpark price.
It should be close to about a quater of your budget and should meet all your requirements (other than being german of course).

Not sure what you mean by a sniper scope. The rifle comes with open sights. You'd have ro pick a scope separately.

Since you say you are new to airguns...... go buy a IHP or a Precihole from the nearest dealer and practice with it.
If you like Pumping you may like to import somthing like a Daisy Powerline series of air rifle.. single pump and very accurate. you need a rifle club membership if you want to import.
If you want to buy a Imported german .22, then get ready to shell out much much more than 40k.

Maverick 786us. Welcome to the world of Airguns Buddy. Anything in.22 which is imported will be super expensive since.22 isn't allowed to be imported through courier route. Imported Guns in.22 will be more than 1 lac.

Since you are starting off, go with the precihole nx100 as suggested. It's a good gun. If you want to compete in competitions the Guns range from 30 k to a few lacs and you will need a membership.

Wrt a scope it's not going to be very easy to find one since they are restricted items. But there are options available online where you can get them shipped to you.

I apologize for posting this kind of dumb questions. But since I am new to this arena, so this is the best place to get answers. Does these air rifles require heavy maintenance, like most of the army rifles, where you have to regular clean the barrel from inside, piston, triggers? And are these .22mm cartridges dangerous to cause serious injuries if accidentally stuck?

No Heavy maintenance required. The army Guns need maintenance because they shoot bullets which have gunpowder in it. The Gun powder soot needs to be cleaned from time to time. For air Guns which are PCO a good wipe with some silica gel once in a month is perfect. I have never cleaned my barrel in the last 2.5 years of owning my gun.

Springers will need some oiling once every few months. That's about it.
