Dear Friends,
Re: Winchester Model 70 Sporter (Calibre 30-06Sprg)
I understand that IOF manufactures a 30-06. On that basis, I assume that a Winchester 30-06 would be legal in India. I am a novice, however, and there may be something about the Winchester that I have missed. Your advice in this regard would be very welcome.
Peace, Jase.

Any bolt action in .30-06 would be legal, regardless of make. It is certain cartridges, those used by the Indian government, that are prohibited, the .30-06 is not.

This reminds me of an interesting incident that happened pre 1985 when import of fire arms under personal baggage was permitted. An industrialist friend from Madhya Pradesh got a Mauser 66 rifle with two barrels namely 270 win and 30-06 sprfld along with the basic action. Due to ignorance that prevailed in customs as usual , the barrels were sent to Ichapur, Nawabganj for certification and the reply from them " 30-06 bore is the cartridge used in heavy machine guns mounted on the Tanks by the army and hence is a Prohibited Bore"
How ever the gentleman gave the reference of hundreds of 30-06 owners from the state and finally managed to get the barrel endorsed on his arms license.
Cheers !!

30-06 is perfectly legal and a Winchester Model 70 Sportster chambered for that round is a very desirable rifle

Yes, indeed. The .30-06 is just as indigenously designed. In the US instead of in Austria.
