O/U Bolt Action Double Rifle!

Yes that is correct. We have seen bolt action SXS double rifles.

You can find the info on them on this link.

The same designers who built the SXS bolt action double rifle also built a O/U bolt action double rifle. I learnt about it just today. One can endlessly pick the nits about the usability and practicality of such a design. But, look the at the build quality and the sheer ingenuity that went into the design. It looks so nice.

The Over & Under DBR arose from the idea of creating a vertical DBR from the horizontal version. Internally, the Over & Under has a completely different character. The masculine appearance with its dynamic shape, which is also reflected in the shape of the stock, and its elegantly moulded details attract admiring glances. Every one of these details is intricately and masterfully worked.
The free-floating barrels bring genuine advantages to the hunter. They are easily adjustable. The first shot, which should be made using the front trigger, can be used for distances of up to 300 meters. The hunter with an Over & Under DBR has at his disposal the functions of both a traditional single barrel repeater and a classic double barrel rifle.
Repeat once and two shots are in the chamber! This offers maximum safety. With the four-shot magazine, the total capacity increases to six cartridges. If you want something more elegant, you can use the narrow two-shot magazine.
Rapid assembly with Picatinny rail for all types of scopes reinforces the comfortable handling of the Over & Under DBR.

Ingenious, superb engineering and wonderful craftsmanship ....... A shame about that sin ugly top barrel magazine built onto the side of the receiver however.
There are two or three different SxS bolt action rifles being built but this is the first O/U B/A I`ve seen.
Thanks for bringing it to our attention Vikram - fascinating.

Hmm .... it would appear that it`s the magazine for both barrels.

If there is one blemish, that is the magazine. It looks so out of place on this otherwise well streamlined rifle.

Fascinating,indeed.

Um ..... `Blemish` ? That`s not a `blemish`- an `eyesore`, a `monstrosity` ...... even an anachronism - but MUCH more than a blemish.

The magazine isn't so attractive, I agree. But the fact that it's on the left side is what troubles me. If this was a left handed rifle, it would work ok, but then the ejection would be on the wrong side.

The model for such a magazine would be the one found on the Krag. That magazine was on the right hand side. For easy reloading, the magazine needs to be on the bolt handle side, and the ejection needs to be angled to that side, as well.

Surely this is a mechanical marvel, but I don't think it is very ergonomically practical.

Thanks Vikram, never heard about an O/U bolt before. An interesting concept from an gunsmith/engineering perspective.

Quality of work is excellent and not sure if the design with catch on in the field, but a very unique gun neverthless.

Very interesting rifle Vikram!

Here is another one (description from the video by forgottenguns):
This double-barreled sporting rifle made by Christoph Funk in Germany is not much like the typical over-under double-barreled rifle. It began as a fairly standard Mauser bolt action, chambered in 7x57 Mauser with a 5-round magazine and a nice double-claw scope mount. What Funk added to this was a .22 caliber rimfire action and barrel inside the front handguard of the Mauser action.

The .22 action is simple, and its barrel is very light - their addition does little to disturb the balance or handling of the gun. A striker cocking lever was added behind the Mauser bolt to actuate the .22 firing mechanism, and what appears to be a double set trigger is actually a trigger for the Mauser action and a trigger for the .22 action.

A very clever way to allow a sportsman to have a round of proper rifle ammunition ready for medium game while simultaneously having a round of .22 rimfire ready for a shot at a small game animal.
