My quest for a single shot led me to this beauty today. Though I was less interested due to its short barrel, but its sleek body and great mechanism aroused my interest. The dealer was asking 35k,which is a tad too high considering a single shot,n year of manufacture was unclear .
Fellow Members are requested to kindly chip in with suggestions and more info about this beauty and also if any info about where I can find a single shot in long barrel pl.

Hi alameinite,

its surely a beauty. However, I am worried about this beauty being single shot. It totally depends on the purpose you want to buy.

This one is probably from late 19th century. You'd have to be careful with ammo, especially modern high velocity type as this ammo didn't exist when this rifle was built.

The rifle is a Winchester Model 04. These were made from 1904 to 1931, The barrel should measure 21 inches long.

If the rifle is marked 1904, then it is made before April 1919. If it is marked just 04, it is made after that date. Note that the patent date of 1899 is not the model number.

Remove the bolt and sight down the bore -- the rifling should be in good shape, or your accuracy may be compromised.

Thanks a ton Timmy for the knowledge and regrets for the remark about the intended usage. Will be more careful next time.

An uncle of mine also has a Winchester single shot .22lr bolt action gun. The same one as in the above pic. That gun does not have a rifled barrel and is not very accurate. So plz check and be sure whether the rifle you're buying has one or not.
