Looks like a beautifully done conversion to a one-piece stock, and with a very nice piece of wood as well. I certainly would grab it FAST if they price were at all reasonable.

Have you considered the IOF .30-06?

Any Idea who modified it?

That modification makes the rifle look entirely different in a good way.
However, I would vote for the IOF .30-06.

This is the "No. 4" from Australian International Arms. A number of people have expressed a wide range of opinions about them. What I have heard is that they are new designs, based on the old No. 4, that have provisions for a stronger action and a chrome lined bore. All of the arguments lead me to believe that the receiver is an investment casting that comes from some country near Australia (Vietnam is most often mentioned as this country). As I understand it, they used chrome lined barrels and were available in a number of calibers. I believe the 7.62x39 version used AK-style magazines, as well.

I don't believe that they were offered in 30.06, but rather 7.62x51 NATO.
As I understand it, Australian International Arms is out of business now. When I looked at their website years ago, I think that the cheapest ones were around $800.
As to whether they can be imported now, let Mundaire's information be your guide:

If I am not mistaken, that particular rifle belongs to a renowned shooter Nawab Shafat Ali Khan from Hyderabad, who was in the news in the last few years for killing man eating tigers and leopards.
Single piece stocks on .315s have been there since the rifle was first manufactured in that caliber and in other calibers in other countries especially Canada and Australia and New Zealand.

Anand
