Don't waste your time. The cartridge is obsolete. Ammo is very hard (if not impossible) to find, even in the US.

As far as the adapter goes, the .22 Savage Hi Power uses .227/.228 diameter bullets whereas the .22LR long rifle uses a .223 bullet.
You are never going to see much accuracy with this rifle, especially when shooting .22LR with an adapter in it. It would be like throwing a rock down a drainpipe.

Do yourself a favor; run away from this deal and in the future take everything this particular dealer says with a grain of salt. I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.

As far as the price of this rifle. He should have to pay you to get it off his hands.

The Savage .22 High Power is one of the rare and weird examples of a US calibre for which ammunition is more available in Europe ( but not the UK ) than in N.America - but under the 5.6x52R designation where the calibre gained some popularity between the wars. Ammo is still manufactured by Norma and S&B. Even so, that ammunition isn`t going to be imported into India.
I once made the mistake of buying a drilling chambered in 16x16x5.6x52R here in the UK and then discovered that the only way that I could get ammunition was to buy a whole case ........ I put the gun back into auction.
xl_target is right - the calibre is pretty well obsolete and, as such, buying the rifle would almost certainly be a total waste of time.

I might be wrong here but apparently several people have .22 Savage Rifles on this board and apparently have no problem getting ammo.

See the following threads:

Me, I wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft. pole especially if it was going to be my only rifle.

LOL. Likewise .... but in India what is any non-target rifle going to be used for anyway ? Not hunting. If it`s mostly to hang on a wall, shoot a few rounds at the range and double as a supposed `home security` weapon I don`t suppose it matters much what the calibre is as long as SOME ammo is available.
