These cartidges are perfectly fitted in chamber and feeding and ejector mechanism is perfectly working,But as suggested by the winnie sir regarding legality of getting 30-30 in liscense of 32WS I took the permission of DM.and bought the cartidges and cautiouslly fired one round ,it was perfect and then fired one full magzine(5 Cartidges) .It was perfect .This rile is so old and was not fired atleast last 15 years but still it is far far better than indian 315 .I have decided not to test my luck further and the old lady is now ready and I take it with me whenever required as I am having ammunation.I am very happy as earlier we were planning to sell it.Thanks IG and all gurus this site is a bible for all ignorant gunlovers of India.
Regards

A pack of centrefire cartridges at Rs 170 would be any Indian gun owner's dream come true. Rs 170 a piece is a not so scary nightmare

Thank you TC,Herb I have paid 170 Rs per cartidge for total 42 cartidges that dealer is having with him,I have enquired from other dealer's as well from my city Gwalior and nearby Jhansi Kanpur but most It was unavailable,2 dealers in Kanpur is having 30-30 Cartidges but they are asking price was RS 500 & Rs 650 per piece .This dealer not only given me S & B 30-30 WIN at such a reasonable price but also let his gunsmith to filing work on bullet to further reduce the sharpness as adviced by the gungurus of this forum (As the magazine is tubular so it might get blown off as one bullet can ignite the primer of other cartidge in the magazine.)This dealer is having the ammo of 6.5x54 (.256) as well available with him.

One of the gun smith(Jhansi Gun house Shivpuri) has proposed that he can change/modify the tubular magazine to increase its capacity to 11 rounds(10+1) from current(5+1) .Its a very reputed gun house in M.P. The same gunsmith had done the blueing or browning(sorry I don't know the exact term) on my rifle in 1994 ,as earlier it was in nickel/silver finish and even after 19years it remain same.
I wan't suggetion from Gun Gurus of the forums that is it prudent to go for this modification or not
Thanks and Regards,

I would leave the magazine as-is. To begin with, a 30/30 cartridge is about 2.5" long, so to hold 10 rounds is 25+ inches just in the length of the stack of cartridges. And then you have the spring behind that, and you have to accommodate for the compressed coils of the spring length too. The common way that magazine capacity was increased was to cut off coils of the spring and possibly stretch it a bit, but that starts interfering with reliability. Remember, some very clever men designed all of this and if they could have reliably fitted more cartridges into the magazine they would have.

About the only reliable way to increase capacity is to fit a longer magazine tube with a matching spring. However, yours looks to have a tube that already is at barrel length so you'd need a longer barrel fitted first. Anyway, I think you have a fine proportioned rifle as it is and personally I would be satisfied with it in the current configuration.

Also, is that writing on the butt stock? If so could I trouble you for a better photo and translation please? I find the family history of pieces like this to be quite interesting.

Also, if you can PM me the serial number of your rifle I can attempt to find the date of manufacture.

There is not need to modify the bullet point of any factory loaded .30-30 or .32 Special cartridge. They are already designed to be safe in a tubular magazine.

A beautiful old rifle.
Sir, please do not modify it in any way. Leave it just the way it is.

The rifle will look really stupid with a magazine tube that is longer than the barrel.
I guess accuracy is not a requirement if you`re using .308" bullets in a barrel intended for .321" bullets ........
