Easily one of the most innovative and gorgeous looking guns.

Text and photos from here
This unique rifle is made from S7 air hardening tool steel that has a tensile strength of 320,000 psi; You turn the barrels a 1/4 turn, slide them forward 1 1/8" and the barrel weight allows them to hinge with ease, This motion activates the extractor that lifts the fired cases an inch from the chambers, You reverse that to close the smooth action, It has large locking lugs that connect the breech and barrels with total rigidity, It is with 26" extractor barrels, 1/4 rib, Hoenig machined adjustable rear sight, Hinged front sight protector that has a spring actuated lock, Removable front sight with a spring actuated lock, Hoenig quick detachable single lever scope mount made from S7 tool steel, Leupold 1.5 x 5, Bushed strikers with firing pins that are in line with the bores, Double triggers, A rotary safety that cams back the strikers and blocks them, 2 piece forend to each side of the barrels with near full coverage checkering. Engraved trapdoor grip cap, Shadowline cheekpiece, 14 3/16" LOP over a 1" pad, Slight cast-off for the right hand, 8 lbs. 3 oz. and 9 lbs. 4 oz. with the Leupold, Nice wood with nice color, Very well cut engraving by Owen Bartlett with about 45% coverage, It is capable of putting 4 shots into 3/4" at 100 yards, Overall on both wood and metal the gun remains at 94-95% original, The bores are as new.

In the 1960's George Hoenig worked for Pachmayr and a stint at Weatherby. The American custom rifle & shotgun stockers soon became aware of his influence when he built the incredible stock duplicating machine that held tolerances of .0005". The genius of George Hoenig started building these Rotary Round Actions in the early 1990's. His first was a very neat Vierling in 20 x 20 x 5.6-50R & 22 L.R. To this day you can get 20-28 or 410 shot barrels, combination rifle & shot barrels or a big bore in 450 N.E. Everyone I have seen displays immaculate workmanship, finesse and mechanics that draw attention in every gun circle anywhere on this planet. The toughest, most versatile, hard-core watch in the world is a Timex Ironman, but wearing one of these ugly timepieces makes you look like a substitute gym teacher, this gun makes you look like an astute advanced rifleman. There are double rifles and then there are serious double rifles. For unabashed hunting pleasure, this gun is much more than a shooting device.

The action is intriguing and the workmanship is beautiful! It has very sleek lines and must be a dream to point and shoot. I can't say I've ever been a big fan of dreilings and vierlings, but the SxS would be my cup of tea as a double rifle, with both barrels in .30-40, and the 4 barrel as a repeater with all four barrels the same -- maybe in a rimmed 6mm or .25.

Lovely work, and an ingenious action, for sure!

"dreilings"? What are those?

" "dreilings"? What are those?`
A drilling that had a torrid affair with a vierling ............
`Dreiling` is the correct German form of the anglised `Drilling`. ( From `Drei` - three. )

No, Grumpy, it isn't. The German word is "Drilling", i.e. "triplet".

Surely I will be mentioned in Wagner's next opera as some sort of demonic influence for this, having convinced Faust to sell his soul for calling a drilling a dreiling.

I can think of no more appropriate course of conversation for the object of the thread...

Oh, my, mea culpa!

Now that these vital concerns are duly noted and addressed, there remains the minor concern of the guns...

Drillings
Drillings, or "dreiling" (the German word "drei" means "three" so "Dreiling" means triplet—the form "Drilling" normally only used for triplet births and the drilling gun) normally consists of two matching shotgun barrels and a rifle barrel (German: Normaldrilling, common drilling), but may cover a much broader range of shapes and configurations:[2]
Looks like both are correct and acceptable.

If I had $28,500 to spare, I'd call it "MINE"! :-)

I would not mind owning one at all. They look so nicely made and machined.

Like a watch! I mean that without exaggeration. Not only are the lines so smooth, but I am guessing that the thing would swing like a dream, don't you think? Even holding it would feel right, I think.

Also, if the joint between the barrels and action locked tightly, I am thinking it could be quite accurate, as well. It would be interesting to know how it shoots.

I would like to know who buys them and how many have been sold, and if anyone uses them for hunting, as well.

I gather that they are back-ordered greatly! There is a long waiting period is what I read.

I would think that if one were not in a hurry to reload, say when a dangerous game charging or a driven shoot, that would work like a treat is what I think.

You could always buy them in pairs. No issue of reloading in a hurry then...as long as you have a reliable gun bearer :D

No, they are not. "dreiling" is not a German word, "Drilling" is, Wikipedia or not. Some anglophone who could count to three in German probably then assumed he knew German and came up with that word. Even if "dreiling" were a German word, it would be incorrect for the three-barreled gun, or triplets of any kind. Cheers.
