I am told that an improved and more expensive .30-06 IOF rifle is with the dealers now. Does anyone know what the improvements are and whether they justify the increase in price?
Regards.

Has the price increased? By how much.
If your pp is nearing expiring, this would still be the rifle to buy in a hurry.
Cheers,

Sorry CC my grey cells are wearing out .
I found out from a A/A dealer who has received a stock of 2012 IOF 30.06. The rifle is more expensive now and it comes with a 3 and a 5 capacity magazine. These are the only two new changes.
best,

Dont underestimate the IOF foggies, they probably will import the nylon belt, sling too. Man wait till the Europian Gun manufacturers see the new sling, whip the pants of the competition.

Everything of IOF 30-06 is made in India. Nothing of it is imported. It is copy cat model of European design. They have eleven engineers in their CAD team in Ishapore. When asked why they did not copy Mauser 98 or Sako or Weatherby. There was no answer. Impression that I received was that in response to the quotation notice, the ultimately copied rifle was the one which they were able to get at the lowest rate in Kolkata at that point of time. None in the team was hunting or sporting firearm enthusiast. One of them said that cost of production of Mauser 98 is higher. The copied design was considered by them as more contemporary. They have copied the cheapest imported available rifle in Kolkata. I personally feel that the they could have easily introduced the present 315 in 30-06 calibre. At-least it is all steel military design proven by use of millions of rifles in the world wars.Unfortunately bureaucracy is hidebound and seniority conscious. You do what you are told to do. Evidently, since it is a copy cat item, one can get the original steel receiver from Europe and replace the investment casting method produced aluminium alloy receiver [ an outsourced and not in house] of IOF 30-06 rifle. It will add to durability and accuracy. Rigidity of the receiver adds to the accuracy of the weapon.

Yes, the Mauser 98 would be more expensive to produce; even though some of its components could nowadays be more cheaply produced with modern methods.. It dates from a time when ease of industrial production was not a consideration. I seriously doubt that either Sako or Weatherby would provide IOF with a sample rifle, or the manufacturing blue prints. Nor is either any "better" than the Sauer IOF copied. To make the Lee-Enfield handle the longer and more powerful .30-06 would require scaling up and strengthening. Anyone thinking it "easy" is pretty much clueless.
Since the Sauer/IOF locks the bolt into a barrel extension, and not the receiver; the receiver could be plastic without affecting the rifle's strength or shooting. By all reports the IOF is accurate as is, far more so than any "phoren" rifle on the market, if we are to believe the reports. Aluminum is superior to steel where vibration dampening is concerned. Replacing the receiver with a steel Sauer receiver will only gain you weight, and the ability to reblue. Though I doubt that the dimensions are exactly the same, not being a licensed copy. The Sauer is still an up-scale modern rifle selling quite well, and not cheaply, with either a steel or aluminum receiver.
