A friend of mine has a Savage model 1899H .22 Hi-power rifle. It fires .22 Savage High-Power (5.6x52mmR) rounds. I want to know if there are any adapters that would allow to use .22 LR instead of hi-power rounds? If such fittings do exist then where can I get them?

Hi Zombie.
Yes, adapters to fire .22 LR are available for the Savage Model 99 lever action rifle. My father had this rifle once and I fired at least a hundred .22 LR rounds using three stainless steel adapters that we procured from a gunsmith in Kolkata. In fact our rifle also had an extra smooth barrel for firing 410 shells that loaded from the same magazine just like the adapters.
You could ask your friend to look for adapters at old gun shops. Gunsmiths in Kanpur and Lucknow could be of help.
Best wishes
TC

Hi Tariq,
What is the price of the adaptors? You can pm me if you like. Sorry for bringing up this old thread but just found it on google.
