Dear friends,

I have a scope I want to send to India for the new IOF 30-06 arrival in the family. I have chosen the scope but need to know what sort of mounts etc will be needed for it.

Fortunately I have a good range of accessories available here in the uk hence asking this in a different thread as the answer need not be limited to an Indian setting. (Having said that, I am not sure about the availability and variety of bases and mounts available in India).

I come across many people want to take the scopes back home, would you let every one know which ( Make and model , size and length ) ones fit onto the Indian guns. And it be a good idea if you send in the base plates ( many types and sizes) along with the rings, but make sure you also send hex keys and allan keys that fit too.
Sending small screws later, you ask me - Haji

Which model does uncle have? Is it pre or post 2010? The earlier ones had no dovetail but were drilled and tapped to accept Sauer 202 (front & rear) bases, which fit in without any mods. The later ones have a silly 11 mm dovetail (for mounting a peep sight?), as well as the correct base holes drilled & tapped. For these ones you may be best served by having the dovetailed machined off and properly radiused. Katana & z375 would be good chaps to get more details from. Sanjay is also getting his IOF 30-06 worked upon, you could drop him a line as well.

If uncle wants to use the open sights as well, you way want to consider a set of QD rings to go with the bases.

Also, the front swivel is incorrectly positioned which can over time cause the fore-end to fail. You may wish to get something like this and have a competent gunsmith fit the forward one using the long bolt which holds the fore-end in place.

Cheers!
