Dear Members,
Here is one of my prized possessions ::::::
A .50 Caliber Muzzle Loading Non-Fouling Smooth Oval bore sporting rifle model 1861 by Westley Richards & Co. The Ram rod sits inside the shoulder butt , capped up by the steel recoil plate .
These were made for the Indian Royalty & the British bureaucrats for the sport hunting in India, being a very light hunting ML carbine , even the huntresses of that era could afford to take various game species with it due to its mild recoil ....
It fires a .50 caliber ball & conical projectiles with impressive results on the target shoots even today ......

Thanks for sharing. However everything that WR made was not for the Royalty.
This is a rifle worked over by Holland & Holland but was issued to a Tommy

That's an unusual, and hansom, gun. Westley Richards very rarely used Lancaster's oval bore. May I trouble you for some detailed pictures of its markings, the ramrod and of the mould. Is the serial number repeated behind the trigger guard, and are the batch marks/hashes on the inside edge of the lock plate repeated in the barrel channel?
Lastly, may I ask for the barrel length?

Maximus, I too must comment on what a nice rifle you have and thank you for the pics!
I would also be interested in seeing more pictures of your very nice gun, especially with a yardstick or ruler next to it to get an idea of the scale.
