My latest Brno 7mm

Dear friends
In search of a bolt action rifle i came across this forum and it has been of enormous help in shaping my decision.
Finally i zeroed on a Brno .275 bolt action rifle. It has decent groovs and the stock, bolt etc are fine.
My special thanks to MoA, xl_target, Mark, Vineet, Two Rivers, Timmy and Katana
with the help of you guys i saved myself from not less than 2 crooks. One was selling me a 9mm mannlicher rifle with 20 rounds of ammo and was promising a smooth supply of it, the other was selling a rifle with a converted barrel with incorrect mauser markings.
The link to the photos is http://www.flickr.com/photos/katarnia/

Arjun,

That's a nice looking rifle in a great calibre that you got yourself there. I like it a lot. With some effort by tweaking it, you can even think of running for the bigbore competitions. Why not!

Congratulations.

Vikram

arjun401: My maternal uncle also have the same rifle. It's in the family from past many decades. Next time I visit them I will get some pics.
BTW how much did you pay for it. AFAIK its priced around 4 lacs in the market.
Also can you please post a close picture of the rear sight. Does it have two blades marked 100 and 200 meters those can be lifted up and dropped down.

Wonderful choice, Arjun! Nice rifle, it's seems to be in good shape with a Mauser type bolt and double trigger. Ammo should not be a problem too! Enjoy it responsibly.

Congratulations, Arjun.
That is one good looking rifle. Old time European craftsmanship at its best.
I hope you will post a range report once you get it on some paper. It would be interesting to see how well it shoots.

Same cartridge. Though when Rigby adopted it, he did make some minor changes, along with the name, based on differences in engineering practice, which makes it two cartridges under CIP, but does not affect interchangeability. A Czech H21, or subsequent model, would be chambered in and marked 7x57mm.

Thanks ! everyone
Vineet
you were correct about the price I had to pay 4.3 lacs for it
and yes it has the rear sight with two blades that can be lifted and dropped , the 100 and 200 marking on them is barely visible.

I am waiting for the range test as the new range in my hometown Lucknow is still not officially complete and operational though it is being built with games standards and looks good. Earlier we got to to test our rifles at the 100 m range in there with the help of some connections but with elections going on in the state of U.P. it is not possible till Feb end and for the same reason i cant test it properly at the farm.
The election Commission directs the administration to ensure the deposition of all licensed firearms during elections and the licensees are not supposed to use them during this time. . . Silly Rule. . .

http://www.hallowellco.com/double_set_triggers.htm
DST or Double-Set Triggers - On a rifle, a complete secondary, miniature action, which when cocked by pulling the rear trigger transforms the front trigger to a hair trigger. When the front trigger is pulled, a spring powers a miniature hammer, multiplying the force of the actual trigger pull, allowing a very light touch to accomplish the release of the main sear. While the front trigger is always at the ready (requiring a ~4 pound pull), if one has the time, using the set trigger feature may allow for a more accurate long-distance shot because now thr trigger requires only a ~4 ounce pull. To use this feature, the rear trigger must be pulled consciously just prior to taking the shot. It would be dangerous to walk with a loaded rifle having such a sensitive trigger as standard. A Double-Set trigger is normally recognizable by the small setscrew used to adjust the weight of pull required.

A Double-Set Trigger mechanism in the cocked position---the front trigger converted to a hair trigger. Note the tiny sear, engaged, above the front trigger.

A Double-Set Trigger operates using its own miniature firing mechanism (sear, spring and hammer) when cocked, to multiply the force of a pull on the main trigger. A pull of a few ounces then accomplishes the work that normally requires a pull of several pounds. A small setscrew located just in front of the set trigger adjusts the weight of pull of the main trigger.
