Hello guys, this is my first post here. A friend of mine is in possession of these weapons. It is legacy of her dad. All she knows is one of them is Italian and another is German. Please help me identify them and if you are interested in buying, do let me know.

The rifle seems to be a 7mm Mauser with full stock; could be from any European maker. The shotgun is strange because I see a bolt lever and yet it seems to be a side by side. Unless, detailed photos are provided, it would be difficult to identify them. Please photograph the maker's stamp, proof marks and serial numbers and you would have a better idea.

Sorry, the 'bolt lever' is actually the hammer in the shot gun. Seems more like a sidelock.

Zombie,

We need closer and clearer pictures of the guns. One looks like a Mauser Stutzen and the other a SXS with external hammers.Take a close up shots of the markings on the guns, barrels and in the case of the SXS, remove the barrels and take pics of the proof marks. That will help a lot.

If the license holder is deceased, the guns need to be deposited with the police,as far as I know. Please check that aspect too. They cannot be kept at home without a valid license.

Best-
Vikram

Katana and Vikram, thanks for the info. Will definitely ask her to click the pictures as you asked for. As of now these weapons are not with her, but at an armoury. Here are some other pics of the shotgun she had sent me.

This could be an early Holland catalogue gun, according to its shape of the side plates. The breech seems to have a cross bolt in square section, something that I have not come across earlier. Most cross bolts are round sectioned.

The rifle is obviously a M98 Mauser, whether an original Stutzen sporter, or built on a military action, is impossible to tell from the picture. And I am truly in awe that someone can even tell the caliber of the rifle! Much better eyes than mine.
A square cross-bolt is not that unusual in Italian SxSs of that period.

Rifle is an easy Mauser stutzen , the shotty has an unusual square bolt for an italian gun as two rivers said.i do not think its a catalogue holland and holland as per your friends information one being italian the other has been identified as a mauser which is german so the shotty has to be italian suggest you to read and post the marking on the gun. The proof markings would help also these would be found under the barrel in the breach area.

CC,

You missed 'imported' ( A sign of the 'foreign hand' in attempts to destabilize the country ) Also,"Police sources tell us that it can hit a target a mile away with great precision."

Zombie: A 20" barrel, "26 inch with chamber", would make the cartridge far longer than the magazine. Barrel length is measured muzzle to bolt face. Insert a rod down the barrel until it contacts the bolt face, and mark the rod at the muzzle. That is the length of the barrel. Which is really not information that helps in identifying the rifle.
