Exceptional Mannlicher Schoenauer

A dealer acquaintance sent me details of this really nice M-S Stutzen carbine earlier today:
Built 1963 and chambered for the very useful 7x64 the rifle will deliver 1 1/2" groups @ 100 metres with RWS 173 gr ammo - remarkable accuracy for a Stutzen.
The magazine base plate, trigger guard and fore-end/muzzle clamp are colour case hardened and the scope - on Ferlach type claw mounts - is a Schmidt & Bender 8x56.
Considering the condition, the calibre and the scope the asking price of £950 cannot be considered excessive.

Grumpy,
Is this the rifle that we discussed some time ago? It is a truly exceptional piece and the value with the S&B scope is superb, indeed!

It's a bloody steal!
A very interesting safety mechanism. I have never seen one like that before.
Thanks.

It looks remarkably similar to the rifle we discussed a while ago Mehul except that I don`t remember that rifle being in 7x64........and I don`t think it had a big S&B scope......and this one is being offered by a dealer and the other was a private sale...........it is very similar though. Maybe the guy sold it to this dealer ?

For almost the price of the scope you are getting a rifle. 950 pounds is a bargain.I hope you are buying this rifle Grumpy.I would.

We`ve been discussing 30-06 M-Ss on another thread. Very rare in the UK but reasonably available in the US.
The 7x64 is not a Steyr/Mannlicher developed calibre but is a Brenneke - German - design.

very beautiful rifle... almost resembles as mine. The scope mount is very nicely fitted. Generally Stutzen rifles come without scope mount fittings.

Go for it. Mannlicker action is legendary and 7 x 64 is an excellent all round calibre.
Mannlicker do have 30-06 chambering as well. In Patna I know of at least 2 people who own Mannlicker 30-06, in rest of India there will be many more, but yes Mannlicker do have some exclusive chambereing rounds like 6.5 x 54, unique to them and few other makers.

Grumpy, I noticed the interesting mount on the front end of the scope. Why so ? Why not the conventional receiver mount attaching the "pipe" of the scope. I've never seen it before, would you Please shed some light.

Grumpy,
I thought the rifle looked familiar. Yes, the earlier one was also a 7x64. I might have a picture of it saved somewhere. As you know, a friend in India has offered me his family's old Mannlicher 7x57 as a gift and I am looking at different options on how to rebuild that old rifle. This is a beautiful rifle, no doubt.
Sharief,
It is a claw mount, not used often these days because they are very expensive. Top quality continental rifles have had them for almost a century now.
Cheers!

Yeah, the scope is mounted by the objective and not the body tube.Probably to use the existing scope mounts and not re do fresh mounts-kind of maintain the originality? considering that the scope objective is huge...
Ok Grumpy, hit me...
