Indians For Guns

Well here goes, finally my first double rifle, 45/70, made by Sabatti, new in box. Would give one of my nuts for some of the doubles that I see some of you post, always wanted one, could not figure out how to export them out of India, the US side is no issue so just bought one here. Would surely buy one from India if I could export it out without hassels from the Babus.

Have you shot it yet? Any reason why you chose the 45-70. They also make them in NE calibers .470 .500 etc.

Same thought as mine.


Sabatti is supposed to make the most reasonably priced double rifles these days and the quality is also supposedly very good.Have no personal experience obviously but Sabatti gets praise from knowledgeable people on nitroexpress.com.

Sorry guys, been travelling so have not had a chance to post. Cost was USD 3K. The 475 retails for USD 5K. 45/70 because I hunt pigs in California and black bear. In the thick brush this would be adequate for close shots and if you are down wind of the pigs you can stalk to 50 odd yards so the bullet drop would not be an issue.

Getting ready for a possible plains game to RSA later this year. Had to get my Brno 30.06 restocked as the prior stock was getting chipped on the wood above the bolt slot from too many empties bouncing off it when I shot at the range as if you extract it forcefully it bounces onto the bench next to you and could annoy someone with a gun .Had a dufus shooting an SKS next to me, did not bother him that his hot empties were bouncing off me. Took my friend's Weatherby 375 that had a muzzle break put on and sent a few down range, the muzzle blast woke the idiot with the SKS up, he changed his bench then

Ranges are not safe anyplace, had another dufus try to clear a 45 a few benches away ignoring the range master to keep guns pointing downrange and put one through his thigh, not sure how he manged to do that. Now when I get to any range I sit on the bench and watch how folks respond to instructions and then choose a space to a grizzly veteran or someone that is safe.

Post restocking:










Hear a lot of folks from India moaning about the pricing, type of guns available there etc. Those folks may want to consider that the Rodhas, Wesley Richards etc you can get in bolt actions there make us kids on this side of the Pacific drool . There is something, an aura, of those old guns, if only they could speak. All the so called advancements in technology haven’t always improved sporting rifles, the bluing, the wood, how everything is put together, infinitely better in what you folks have in India.
