Post by virk » Mon Sep 06, 2010 12:13 pm

hi everyone............i am new to this forum.........just bought a second hand .315 Indian made.manufactured in 1990.........however i still have some doubts about the rifle hope u guys will help me.

1 most of the people i met know r preferring .22 rather than.315 but i like .315 so what do u guys thinks its ok that i continue with this rifle or buy new .22

2 some of the owners told me that there is some problem in IOF .315 design and if u reload fast the bullet struck in chamber.is it true?

3 i have also learned that i has good piercing power, from the stroies they told me they said bullet can go through a tree.......is this also true.........i had decided to check this on a wooden flank will tell u soon what will happen.

4 is there any thing i should look after while using it? any special advise

thanks

try the 315 thread in the rifle section, if not already done so.

can the bullet go through a tree? depends on the thickness and flexibility of the tree.

if you say it can not be done, then you are right, for you, it can not be done.

There is nothing wrong with the design. The Brits fought two World Wars and numerous regional conflicts with the same rifle though in .303.

I hope you had something behind the plank to stop the bullet(preferably not a brick wall). It is a center fire rifle and going through 1.5" wood plank is not a problem for it.Most center fire rifles will do that

1.Do not take out the magazine to load the rifle. It is to be taken out only for cleaning and or repair.Load the cartridge from the top.

2.Most of the feeding issues can be sorted out by tweaking the feeding lips of the magazine.A little at a time.Twist it too much and you can break it.

3.There should be no oil either in the barrel or the chamber when you fire it.Run a patch through the barrel before firing it.

4.Fire only the .315 KF ammo in it.

5.KF ammo is corrosive. After firing clean immediately.Hot water followed by WD 40 or WD 40 exclusively, will ensure that you will not get any rust in the barrel.Clean the bolt face as well.Inspect after two days for any signs of rust and then oil.

Safe gun handling is THE most important thing.Always have a back stop.Do not fire into the air.Buy crackers instead.Always treat your rifle the way you would a loaded one.Do not point at anything that you do not wish to shoot.Enjoy your rifle.

The year of manufacture is marked next to the serial number.Only the last two digits would be marked. In your case,it should be '90.

WD 40 means water displacing compound 40.You can get cans of it pretty easily.

BTW re your friends video, just saw a bit of it and I must say that that was more than enough. The fellow contemplating the pistol is certainly not a role model for budding shooters.Bad posture as well. The calibre for the AK 47 is 7.62x39 and not 7.62x41.Both AK rifles are AK47's.AK 74 has a very distinct muzzle brake and there are none in the Indian Army. Also the calibre for an AK 74 is 5.45mm

Whoever shot the video is an idiot for being infront of the muzzle during the shooting of live ammunition. Hopefully the camera was unattended, otherwise my previous comment stands.

BTW Mobil engine oil works very well as gun oil. You do not need to slather the rifle in oil.Just a couple of drops is all that you need.

You can get WD 40 in some departmental stores.Else check up hardware/metal stores.

1 most of the people i met know r preferring .22 rather than.315 but i like .315
It is unfair to compare a .22LR rim-fire rifle with .315 center fire rifle. Ballistically center fire rifle will be more powerful than a rim-fire rifle. If one wants to make a comparison of .315, it should be with another center fire rifle like 30-06. 30-06 is ballistically much more powerful than .315.
so what do u guys thinks its ok that i continue with this rifle or buy new .22
.22LR cartridges are cheaper than .315, if your purpose is regular target practice and plinking, then one would prefer .22LR rifle since its cartridges are cheaper. If your purpose is self defense then it is better to have a .315 rifle than .22LR rifle.

The camera has no shake so its pretty clear it was on some stand or something. Also it looks like they are shooting under supervision of army men who know all the safety protocols while shooting. So i dun see any problem with the this video..
