How to aim with this rifle

Post by Vineet » Sat Sep 04, 2010 11:01 am

How should one take aim with this rifle. The magazine seems to be inbetween rear sight and front sight.

One more question - For what is the abbreviation LMG used for, Large Machine Gun or Light Machine Gun.

The sights are off set towards the right side and it is visible in the picture of this kerala star Mohanbabu as well if you happen to study the front sight. LMG stands for Light Machine Gun. This vintage LMG (WW2) was initially built in cal .303 British and later modified to rimless cartridge ie 7.62 Nato.

Hmm, you seem to have missed your diet of Commando comics in childhood,

The sights are offset to the side. Scroll down this page till you see it..

So, err, shall we move this away from the humour to the history section, ah wait, there's a pot bellied man involved, keep it here!

The Bren Gun was a very well designed and practical section support weapon.

Marksman, ASFAIK, the sights on a Bren are offset to left.

The gun Mohan Lal is shooting in the picture is the modified version that shoots the 7.62X51 NATO ammunition. The straight magazine and the flash-hider are giveaways as the old Brens used a curved magazine. Also, the magazines of the 7.62 SLR and the modified LMGs are interchangeable.

Designed by the Czechs and made by the Brits, this LMG in 303 was the backbone of British Rifle sections during World War II.

It is named after the Czechoslovakian city of Brno and the English town of Enfield. Thus the name Bren.
